# 1 "Our German Heritage" - and "The Making of an Ethnic Writer"
(a) The amazing saga of Dr. Ingrid Rimland - a German-speaking Mennonite by birth - can truly be termed a "triumph of the will." She was born in the Ukraine during the Stalinist purges, escaping exile to Siberia by hours if not minutes when the German forces rolled into Russia. In those dramatic days, Hitler was looked upon as a liberator - not only by the Mennonites, but by the Ukrainians as well.
In this stirring interview, Dr. Rimland describes the events that led her to write the award-winning novel, "The Wanderers", which traces the path of the Mennonite community's hardship-filled trek from Russia, through Europe, to the jungles of Paraguay.
"Those of us who grew up in the jungle," she states, "never thought of ourselves as deprived. We've all gone on to become super-achievers."
This is the first interview done by Ernst Zündel with Ingrid Rimland, after she was introduced to Revisionism.
(b) Here Ingrid Rimland is interviewed at the Zundel-Haus. She talks of her first two books, The Wanderers (a semi-fictional account based on her Mennonite grandmother's life) and "Furies", an autobiography which details her own struggle to raise her son, Erwin, who became severely handicapped after a botched operation in a primitive hospital in the jungles of Paraguay.
When this interview was done, she was still working on her opus magnum, "Lebensraum!" a monumental novel on the contributions of the German people over a two hundred year period. This trilogy has since been completed and published.
