January 1, 1999

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

After an almost 3-week absence - with just a one-day break before the Christmas holidays - I am finally back for good at my computer on this wonderfully sunny and clear California New Year's Day!

I extend my apologies for the somewhat sporadic ZGrams of the past few days, pleading the Holiday Spirit. I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very productive, truth-and-pride-permeated 1999! Let's make this the strongest assault year on the Big Lie yet ever! I know we can do it - and do it we will!

I feel confident saying we will - because I came home to such a wealth of new developments to give us hope that we can win this battle that I don't know just where to begin. Those of you who wrote to me, either per e-mail or via snail mail, please give me a chance to catch my breath. And those who missed a ZGram or two, just let me catch up and fill in! They will all be posted within a week or two - as the Chinese would say, that is a solemn plomise!

Now, where to start? Perhaps to say: My goodness gracious, how things are escalating all over the globe!

On the way back from what was part business, part much-needed meetings with friends, supporters and a little squeezed-in vacation time, I made a resolve that my very first 1999 ZGram would really focus on what is, for us, the most important "fall-out" dividend yet - the foolish Zundel ban from the Parliament precincts due to a scheduled press conference on June 5th where Ernst intended to alert Canada that """truth was no longer a defense""" in human rights cases involving truth in history!

A number of editorials have come out in mainstream Canadian media, obliquely excoriating the danger to Canada in this precedent-setting case our enemies are trying to embed, expand and cement in hastily crafted 'hate law" legislation.

Here are some telling quotes:

Eclectica | Alberta Report | December 7, 1998, from an article titled "Freedom is slavery":

"The best nation on earth just got a little better. Southam News reports November 25 that federal and provincial justice ministers have agreed on a new package of anti-hate laws. Included are police powers to seize computer hard drives that contain "hate propaganda," the denial of the defence of truth to those accused of historical revisionism, and a new list of protected classes.

It is now against the law to incite hatred "against members of an identifiable group distinguished by colour, race, religion or ethnic origin. Under the changes, the list of characteristics would be expanded to include sex, sexual orientation, age and mental disability." The legislation will also criminalize possession of "hate propaganda" for the purpose of distribution. B.C. Minister of Truth Ujjal Dosanjh nonetheless insists that this provision "would preserve academic freedom, freedom of expression and all those values that we cherish." Repeat after me: two plus two makes five, two plus two makes five, two plus two makes five..."

And in "The use of 'truth' must remain unfettered" by Peter Stockland, The Calgary Herald | December 11, 1998":

"It is alarming enough to hear left-wing nutbars in B.C.'s NDP government want criminal code restrictions on the truth.

"More worrisome still is learning that federal Justice Minister Anne McLellan and her provincial counterparts largely approve the idea.(...)

"It wouldn't be necessary to actually disseminate the material. The mere possession of words or images deemed "hateful" could bring Constable Longnose and company battering through the domicile door.

"Worse, under the reforms, accused hate-mongers would be unable to defend themselves on the basis of sincere belief in the truth of whatever they were allegedly mongering.

"Gratton said this planned restriction is meant to keep courtrooms from becoming platforms for spouting such things as Holocaust denial."

And in "The end of free speech?" | Alberta Report | Shafer Parker Jr. | December 14, 1998:

"When the federal, provincial and territorial justice ministers met in Regina this past October, few noticed that the concluding communiqué cryptically announced an agreement on "issues relevant to hate-motivated activities consistent with the charter." In fact, the brief announcement heralded proposed changes in Canada's hate laws that some observers call a government-sponsored attack on free speech.

"The suggested hate law revisions, which federal justice officials plan to introduce in the Commons next year, toughen the penalties for desecrating churches, cemeteries and other institutions. More importantly, the categories protected by the Criminal Code's anti-hate provisions would be expanded to include sex, sexual orientation, age and mental or physical disability. In light of the increasingly strident attacks on government-run and church-run Indian residential schools, it is perhaps significant that the new hate law would prevent those accused of denying the Holocaust or other acts of genocide from using the defence of truth."

This is just a smattering of things being said - but there is much, much more to come, and it will culminate in whether or not """all""" Canadians, not just Ernst Zundel, will be barred from using truth as a defence against the professional maligners, defamers and demonizers who hide behind the umbrella of "victimization" - due to the unique victim status the Holocaust story has bestowed on them.

As said once before, January 19, 1999 will be """D-Day for Canada"""!

On that date, a judge will decide if the Zundel charge of abuse of power has merit and if the law suit against the elite can go forward. That judge will be deciding if Canada's much-touted Charter of Rights and Freedoms has any meaning in fact and in law, or if it is merely a fig leaf trotted out by a power-hungry oligarchy now clearly spinning out of control - as evidenced by the zig-zag in the AIPEC fiasco.

All the opposition needs is a politically beholden judge who is willing to "drop his pants" - a favorite Faurisson metaphor - before the Almighty Holocaust Lobby and moon the entire Right, thus showing his contempt for individual rights.

And all Ernst Zundel needs is that rare judge with backbone and the necessary civil courage to call a spade a spade and an injustice an injustice.

Stay tuned. There's lots and lots to come.

Ingrid

Thought for the Day:

"Our best effort is to cauterize the Chosen's boil of hatred with truth, as we are doing. And that is why their effort to stamp out free speech is so deadly."
