Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

"Some time ago Ingrid Rimland noted in one of her ZGrams that Revisionism is no longer being advanced person by person - now it is country by country! A few examples were: Switzerland and the boomerang of the hysterical "Nazi Gold" scandal; Sweden and the embarrassing finding that one in three junior and high school student "does not believe in the Holocaust"; Britain with their ludicrous "Carlisle Two" trial; Australia where Revisionist Dr. Fredrick Toben simply packed up and walked out on the Human Rights Commission Kommissars - and, of course, the basket-case Germany where over 5,800 Germans have been charged, tried and convicted for daring to think for themselves!

Now things are boiling up in Spain!

Word reached me from Spain that Pedro Varela was presented with 8 large volumes of particulars of the Spanish state's accusation against him, under their new anti-Revisionist censorship law. Thus, Revisionism moves to Spain.

Varela's book shop and offices had been raided last year, and over 10,000 books and other items had been seized by Spanish police. This will be an interesting case, because Varela is smart, articulate, good-looking and media-wise, and the Spanish people are proud people who are not easily censored. The Spanish media is still far freer and livelier than the media in Germany or Canada.

Here, too, Revisionism will be advanced by the Varela trial, whatever the verdict will be, inside the court room, as has happened so many times before-the world over. The courts are Revisionist battle ground!

Yesterday, the Zundelsite received the following from a Spain Revisionist:

A long time ago I asked you for information on some details about the Canadian law. Here is the situation of the case of Pedro Varela. First, I must apologize for my bad English, however, I also hope you understand. I send you some reports on the Varela's case which now is heading into more. If they are useful for you, please report on this case. We have also helped every comrade who came here to Spain.

The case of Spain is a very particular one because (Spain) is an island in the middle of the European prosecution. If you report on Varela's case, not any other name should be mentioned in the text but e-mail and postal addresses of Europa bookshop and the bank account of COMITE POR LA LIBERTAD DE EXPRESION: the prosecution often searches names and addresses on web sites close to our cause, trying to prove that there is a extraordinary big 'nazi-network'.

They are really bigots and you can´t imagine what kind of information they have collected for the prosecution. Among other things, every video we made when Zündel came to Spain is now in the police facilities. Please, keep Ernst informed."

THE LAST ISLAND OF FREEDOM IN EUROPE: THE CASE OF PEDRO VARELA.

On December 12th 1996 the Catalonian regional police raided the "Europa" bookshop in Barcelona while Pedro Varela' sister was working in the shop and his young daughter was playing in the backyard. Some 12000 books were seized along with posters, flags, audio tapes, video documetaries, etc, and Varela was arrested at the family home and later charged with "incitement to racial hatred" and, literally, "genocide"(!?).

The case received a wide national media coverage.

This case is of the utmost importance for a number of reasons. This is the first time in the history of Spain that someone has been arrested under the charges of "racial hatred" and "genocide" included in the new Spanish Penal Code. But the main reason is that if our comrade Pedro loses this case, there will be a precedent in law to prevent anyone going to Spain for the purpose of political asylum, etc.

Until now, Spain has been an island of liberty in Europe, (a continent) where literally "everything" is forbbiden. The reason the legal procedures are taking so long is due to the fact that many of the books are in English, German and French and the prosecution have insisted on these books being translated to Spanish in order to decide which paragraphs fall within the scope of the new Code.

This is quite ridiculous because, for example "My Struggle", by Adolf Hitler, falls within the Code in every paragraph.

One of the charges facing Varela is ". . . trying to restore or minimise historical regimes who promoted some kind of genocide". In other words, it is now an offence to question historical opinion regarding German National Socialism and 2nd. World War.

However, the same law doesn´t seem to apply to Communist regimes responsible for the mass murder of occupied peoples. The Spanish newspaper "La Vanguardia" referred to Pedro Varela as a terrorist even though the Editor knew it was a lie.

"La Vanguardia" was taken to court over the lie and the Judge agreed our Spanish comrades were right; however, the Judge said also that the rectification demanded in the pages of "La Vanguardia" was "disproportionate".

Unfortunately, the newspaper would have faced more court actions over its determination to denigrate Varela by treating his case the same way it would have done with a serial killer if lack of finance had not prevented it.

At University, where Varela was praised for being one of the best students of history (who) completed a five year career in half that time with excellent qualifications, he has experienced many problems. Leftist groups rallied to make mischief and create and environment in which he might be expelled. He has already been illegally expelled from the University French class for being "a member of the nazi movement".

The champions of "freedom and democracy" have fire bombed the bookshop, made physical attacks against people visiting the shop, and recently Varela was attacked as he left the University campus and his bicycle damaged.

Despite all the harrassment by the leftist criminals, the police and the press, the bookshop stands firmly as a light to everyone who wants to know the other history of Europe and those forbbiden authors who wrote in the paradise of "freedom".

Today (February, 1998), the legal situation is within an inpasse. "S.O.S. Racism" and the Jewish Comunity have already presented charges against Varela in order to get all the information from the case i.e. names, addresses, etc. The press has illegaly published (that a four year sentence is expected). Now the defense is expecting what the Spanish law call "calification". This means the punishment the parts who have presented charges ask(ed) for, together with the opinion of the defence.

Then the trial can begin.

(We) understand what is happening with the Zundelsite. However. I reported on Pedro's case to keep you informed about what is the situation here. I should have done it before but things have gone really slow until now due to the fantastic effort on English and German translations they made in order to get more evidence against us. They have translated everything: "Die Auschwitz Lüge", "Did Six Million Really Die?" "Die Gedanken sind frei" etc."
