Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

This is the third ZGram in a series I call "Zundelgate" - based on a highly significant Police Search Warrant obtained through confidential sources identifying the two bombing suspects, Barbarash and Thurston.

You may have read in detail in previous Power Letters what happened at the Zundel-Haus when Ernst received the second bomb on May 16, 1995 - the first having been sent in 1984, prior to the First Holocaust Trial, and in the wake of his publication "Did Six Million Really Die?"

The first bomb actually exploded in Ernst's garage and did massive damage to his car, his garage and contents, and some damage to two Jewish neighbors' homes and cars. When he received the second bomb, he definitely had a guardian angel.

He received a parcel on a Tuesday, May 16, 1995, when things were still hectic because of the arson damage at the Zundel-Haus. This was less than two week after the arson. The parcel felt heavy; it was packaged like a book, but it was far too heavy for a book.

Ernst put it aside, instructed his staff not to touch it, and said he would attend to it when he found time.

He did not pay attention to it until the weekend came. The fire had practically gutted the upper portion of the Zundel-Haus, and everything was soot and ashes. It was quiet that morning; he was alone; he looked at the parcel and even photographed it. It showed as the return address a P.O. Box he did not recognize. Just at that moment someone called, and Ernst asked if this was a P.O. Box he knew. Astonishingly, the man said: "Yes, it's my old address. I haven't sent you anything."

Talk about Providence! Ernst knew then that there was definitely something wrong with the parcel!

Next, he did something that makes me shiver to this day. He very gingerly took the parcel into his garage, opened his car trunk, put the parcel tenderly upon a box of bird seed, and drove it to the police station a few blocks away.

He put it at the far end of the parking lot, went inside and told the police: "I think I may have a bomb for you. Outside, in the parking lot."

Of course all hell broke loose! Bells were ringing! Police were rushing hither and yon! Ernst was taken to an interrogation room or, rather, "bunker" - all concrete, no windows - and grilled by three separate sets of police teams from different units. Once the Bomb Squad had determined via a little automatic robot vehicle, using X-rays on board, that it was, indeed, a bomb, the parcel was loaded into an explosion-proof trailer and towed to a remote site to be exploded. The police station was then cleared, along with the neighborhood.

Ernst called me that evening and told me what had happened. When I asked, horrified, why he had not called the police to come and get the parcel, rather than risking his life taking it personally to the station, he said:

"We have just had a fire. The neighbors were alrady upset by it. It was a long holiday weekend. I could just visualize the police coming with screaming sirens-the bomb squads, robots, the press etc-and people having to clear out the block again. The neighbors did not need that."

A truly vicious "Nazi", right?

Back to the search warrant the police swore out a few weeks ago to find the evidence of the reign of terror these Marxist thugs were about to unleash - not just on Ernst, but on other innocent victims.

One of them was Dr. Terrence Mitenko who lives in British Columbia:

The parcel had been addressed to Dr. Terrence MITENKO, which is his real name.

He is not known by Terrence to any of his friends and associates.

He does not personally know a Dr. R. PETERSON of Vancouver, B.C., the name used on the return address label.

On July 11, 1995, he received the parcel in question and became suspicious of the parcel and opened it with a coat hanger from behind the safety of his thick wooden desk. Dr. MITENKO advised that he was thrown backwards into the wall by the force of the blast but otherwise was not injured except for short term deafness.

Dr. MITENKO could not provide the names of anyone who might wish to do him harm.

Dr. MITENKO is a Vice President with ALTA GENETICS INC., and that ALTA GENETICS INC. is an embryo transplant centre for domestic livestock and dairy cattle."

A third potential murder victim was Mr. John Thompson, Executive Director of the MACKENZIE Institute in Toronto, who, according to the Search Warrant:

"(d) ______ opened the parcel to realize that it contained a pipe bomb. The only reason that the device did not detonate when opened was because the power source had become disconnected.

The pipe bomb was 8" galvanized pipe, 1 1/2'" diameter, a quantity of 2" inch nails secured around the pipe with clear tape, a mouse trap switch, a nine volt battery which had dislodged from the worn connector, a red and black connector which was wrapped in white packing tape."

Almost from the beginning, not only were the two suspects', Thurston and Barbarash's identities known, THEIR CRIMINAL RECORDS WERE KNOWN, according to the Search Warrant:

"It was decided that from the information presently available to them, THURSTON and BARBARASH should be the main focus of the investigation. This was based on knowledge of THURSTON and BARBARASH's previous involvement in the environment movement and their extremist activity aligned with this movement. BARBARASH and THURSTON participated in a break and enter of the University of Alberta Bio Animal Kennel in Edmonton on June 1, 1992. THURSTON was subsequently convicted in connection with this incident in 1993; BARBARASH was convicted in 1994. THURSTON was also convicted in 1993 of the offence of setting fire to the property of a fish supply company in Edmonton, the Billingsgate Fish Company Limited. BARBARASH is presently and publicly active within the Earth First and Bear Watch operations. BARBARASH is associated to Animal Liberation Front activists who are known to use mouse trap warning letters. THURSTON is a former and/or present member of the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), Skinheads against Racial Prejudice (Sharp), and the Anti Fascist League (AFL)"

From Thurston's own mouth you will read in a subsequent ZGram how he felt about doing that kind of damage - for no other reason than to ". . . liberate 29 cats."

By the time the fire and bombs at the Zundel-Haus had happened, Thurston was already connected openly to the vile and violent Anti-Racist Action in Toronto - an anarchist-Marxist collection of the worst dregs of society. Their record of violence has been amply documented and written up many times in the media.

Strangely-or significantly!-the police do not mention in their Search Warrant this connection to Anti-Racist Action, even though Thurston even started the Edmonton Chapter of ARA - and advertised it on the ARA website!

Further biographical information on Thurston, also known as Darren Todd McInnes, reveals that he has a criminal record in Canada for the following:

"On September 23, 1993, in Edmonton, Alberta, he was convicted of Break and Enter and Commit, Section 348(1)(b)CCC and Setting Fire to Other Substance, Section 434 CCC. He was sentenced to two years less 1 day on each charge, concurrent, on appeal on May 12, 1994.

On September 3, 1993, in Edmonton, Alberta, a charge of Mischief Under $1000.00. Section 430(4) CCC against Darren Todd THURSTON, was dismissed.

... documents show that the convictions on the break and enter and the arson offences actually occurred on September 3, 1993. Further, these documents indicate that THURSTON pleaded guilty to the offences on the Court of Queen's Bench and received a suspended sentence and two years probation on each count and a compensation order in the amount of $73,725.00. The compensation order was for $26,725.00 on count #1 (the break and enter) and for $47,000.00 on count #2 (the arson). On the Crown appeal against sentence, the Court of Appeal varied THURSTON's sentence to two years less one day concurrent on each count, compensation order affirmed.

... The Court prohibited THURSTON from having possession, custody or control of any firearm, other offensive weapon, ammunition or explosive substance for a period of five years from the date of the Order. The Court also revoked any Firearms Acquisition Certificates issued to THURSTON and prohibited THURSTON from applying for a Firearms Certificate for a period of five years."

The RCMP officer goes on to say in this Search Warrant:

"On April 17, 1996, I obtained a copy of an information dated September 1, 1995, charging Darren Todd THURSTON with one count of being unlawfully at large within Canada on August 31, 1995, before the expiration of a term of imprisonment to which he was sentenced. On November 10, 1995, THURSTON pleaded guilty to this charge and was sentenced to one day incarceration. (...)

(C)omputer inquiries on the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) computer on David Nathan BARBARASH and acquired the following information on David Nathan Barbarash, also known as Lawrence Troy Beyer, who has a criminal record in Canada for the following:

On December 13, 1982, in Brampton, Ontario, he was convicted of Possession of Narcotics, Section 3(1) NCA and was sentenced to a $300.00 fine, in default 15 days.

On December 22, 1988, in Toronto, Ontario, he was convicted of three charges of Mischief, Possession of Burglar tools, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $1000.00. He received a Suspended sentence and probation for 1 year.

On June 9, 1992, in Vancouver, B.C., he was convicted of Theft under $1000.00, Section 334(b) CCC, and received a Suspended sentence and Probation for 1 year.

On September 8, 1994, in Edmonton, Alberta, he was convicted of Break and Enter, Commit, Section 348(1)(B) CCC and received a suspended sentence and Probation for 18 months.

In my CPIC check, I further learned that other charges against David Nathan BARBARASH were disposed of as follows:

On February 2, 1984, a charge of Mischief to Private Property was dismissed in Toronto, Ontario.

On October 29, 1987, a charge of Possession of Burglar tools was withdrawn in Toronto, Ontario.

On November 5, 1987, five charges of Mischief were withdrawn in Toronto, Ontario.

On November 22, 1988, five charges of Mischief, Possession of Explosives with Intent, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon were all withdrawn in Toronto, Ontario.

Additionally:

On November 30, 1995, March 8, 1996 and April 19, 1996, Cst. Robert POWERS, ("Cst. POWERS") of Edmonton Police Service Crime Analysis Section (...)

compiled an assessment on Darren Todd THURSTON, which was dated August 15, 1995 in relation to his possible involvement in the MDATF campaign involving animal rights. That this assessment is based on documentary evidence received from THURSTON's own files which were seized during the investigation of the Break and Enter in 1992 of which THURSTON was convicted in 1993. (...) Cst. POWERS was personally involved in that investigation of THURSTON for that offence and THURSTON's involvement in the Animal Liberation Front and other animal rights organizations.

Cst. POWERS concluded in the assessment that it is probable that THURSTON is linked to this current wave of terrorist type activity.

THURSTON's activist background includes animal rights and anti-fascist groups such as COAL - Coalition for Animal Liberation, ALF - Animal Liberation Front, SHARP - Skinheads against Racial Prejudice, and AFL - Anti-Fascist League. (...)"

Again, the all-important ARA connection is not mentioned by police in this or subsequent paragraphs in this Search Warrant of 20 March 1997 - eight months after the ARA Edmonton chapter was "founded" by Thurston !

WHY NOT?

Could it be that it wasn't mentioned because the very people who have harassed, beset, vilified, charged and otherwise made Ernst Zundel's life as miserable as they could possibly make it - namely Sabina Citron, the Canadian Simon Wiesenthal Centre, and B'nai Brith of Canada - HAVE OPENLY ENDORSED AND BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE TORONTO CHAPTER OF THE ARA, by getting them grants, by sponsoring their workshop, by stating that they have an ". . . amiable relationship with the ARA, despite their 'tactics'"?
