July 26, 1996

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

A friend called and said she had read somewhere that the Simon Wiesenthal Center has now identified 250 websites to be characterized and targeted as "hate pages." Of course we call them Truth in History Pages - at least the ones who make an honest effort to focus on the Truth, as it behooves our kind.

It's news like that that makes me think that ". . . Truth is putting on its shoes." Big Time. If growth is exponential - and all indications are that it is - then one of my favorite jingles applies:

"Shake and shake
the catsup bottle,
none will come,
and then a lot'll.

Especially the German sites are interesting. I don't know where they are located - what with the horrid censorship in that poor, demonized, confused, beleaguered country - but here are two I'd like for those of you who speak German to check out and give me some feedback if I should bookmark and recommend them in future communiqués.

It's a little bit like listening to BBC if you were in German-controlled Europe during World War II. You find out very quickly what your opposition is up to, who has been targeted, and why.

I also noticed that quite a few of these new pages are linking to us - not via homepage but on special pages such as Language Table of Contents, for example. I think that is an excellent idea. We ought to do that, too.

Imagine developing a habit where every morning, with your cup of coffee, you check your favorite 3 or 4 news pages to get updated reports from the front. You don't have to wade through five layers of links to get to the meat of the matter.

Which gives me an idea. I should start marketing my ZGrams that way - which I will promptly do. (And, by the way, I have now finally caved in, abandoned my beloved Adobe program and, with the help of a good friend, am now converting ALL my ZGrams into HTML format.)

To come back to a previous point - that is, the efforts of the Simon Wiesenthal Center with their own Jewish slant to get opposing views shot out of cyberspace - I bring you now the following.

It comes from the opposing camp - someone who used to fancy himself in league with the SWC Center of Tolerance (sic).

It is Ken McVay, Director of the Nizkor Project, addressing himself to Sol Litman's attempt to get Marc Lemire's Freedom Site shut down:

". . . The July 19 article in the Vancouver Sun, 'B.C. Internet provider is the largest Canadian site for racist material' is alarming.

It is not the material found on the websites mentioned, nor the fact that the host server is Canadian -- nor indeed that the server is physically located in BC -- which give cause for alarm.

It is alarming because -- either by deliberate design or by abject ignorance -- Sol Littman (and the Simon Wiesenthal Center [SWC] whom he represents in Canada) is fostering and promoting the spread of the "Ostrich Syndrome."

Their actions represent a counter-productive denial of reality -- akin to the Ostrich burying its head in the sand.

Littman is quoted as saying:

'We found the longer you leave these groups unexposed, the longer they fester and the more they infect others and the only way to deal with them honestly and forcefully is to expose them to the light of truth.'

Yet the article concludes,

'Littman said he wants to see if Klatt will remove the groups from Fairview voluntarily before the centre takes any other action.'

The only truth that seems to emerge from such a veiled threat is that Littman has no understanding of the Internet. One is at a loss to determine how removal of the 'groups' from one Internet Provider's server would in any way 'expose them to the light of truth.'

If Littman had any knowledge of the Internet, he would know that the Nizkor Project [http://www.nizkor.org/] is an award winning website that is accessed daily by hundreds. In addition to being a source for those who seek information about the facts of the Holocaust, it is used as an electronic resource for those who wish to 'deal with [these groups] honestly and forcefully' thereby exposing Lemire and many others -- of whom Littman may not even be aware.

Nizkor is arguably the 'host' to more hate literature than any other website. Since we also include a link to the Zundelsite amongst others, will Littman next be targetting Nizkor and demanding that we remove such links? Or that we hide from public view the mountains of archived material which meticulously documents and uses the 'arguments' put forward by these groups as instruments of their refutation and exposure?

If Littman and the SWC prefer to bury their heads in the sand while engaging in this futile exercise in darkness, let them do so. But the martyrdom they hand on a platter to Lemire and others whom they find offensive stands in marked contrast to their failure to use the Internet on their own website.

Conspicuously absent on the SWC website are links to the increasingly growing number of useful resources for those who truly do wish to participate in the battle to expose racist and anti-semitic groups on the Internet.

The Ostrich syndrome is far more dangerous to society than any white supremacist group on the Internet. Such groups will fester in darkness, but wither in light. . . "

So much for Ken McVay. Nizkor, if you will please remember, is one I call a Poodle Site. They yelp and yap and snap a lot, mostly at their opponent's ankles.

Now notice what is going on here: At least one of the Nizkor folks is turning its teeth on its intellectual "Masters" - the Godfathers of Holocaust Promotion. And he is right on one count: They store a lot of hate literature - against the German people. More and more people see that now because they can compare the Nizkor website with the Zundelsite, contrasting both content and style.

This is another indication of how the Opposition Front is crumbling. From the very start, the Simon Wiesenthal Center has taken a studied distance from Nizkor - and no wonder! - for while they let them do the barking, the SWC and Nizkor just do not operate in the same league - or, for that matter, out of the same ideological kitty.

I have watched Ken McVay for quite some time. I think he is an honest chap, compared to one or two I wouldn't classify that way. I believe that Ken McVay is one of those who, filled with amazing zeal right now to do us in, belongs in our camp. (I bet he'll shudder at the thought, and so will some of my compatriots . . . . )

Here's what I say - you mark my word: People like McVay cannot be duped forever. We've all been there. I well remember my time - when I believed that there was penance to be done. I woke up, and I believe McVay is waking up. I think that his letter to Litman is telling.
