Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

I have had this letter on my back burner for some time. It was written by a "realist" - but I'd call him a pessimist, given that he puts himself in juxtaposition to the "optimists." I'll let my readers judge.

Here's what this correspondent writes:

"I am curious to know how many optimists are out there, and how many realists.

One thing that has always astounded me is the incredible optimism of some people I've met in Revisionism - the belief that because of the work of Revisionist scholars, the argument is 'won' and the Holocaust will collapse. The problem is that Revisionists circulate in a sort of closed community, and lose the general perspective of society as a whole.

Jewish power and Jewish oppression of non-Jews grows year by year, and Revisionism is making NO headway amongst Jews-and in fact only impels them to dig in their heels even further.

David Cole, in 1992, said that the Holocaust story would be 'finished' in another two years. In 1994, he was embarrassed by his earlier prediction. And there is Faurisson declaring 'victory' and walking away.

Yes, there are court cases now and then in which Revisionists 'win', but far more cases in which they 'lose' and are persecuted. And the 'hate' laws and laws proscribing Holocaust 'denial' spread and intensify.

The Holocaust is stronger than ever and the lies permeate our societies like never before. Virtually everyone in authority makes ritual obeisance to the Holocaust. It is rammed down our throats in every school. The mass media reverently presents it on a daily basis.

Do you really believe that the Holocaust edifice will collapse? You say 'it will take a few more years' but I think that it may never happen at all; the Holocaust may actually be even stonger in a few more years . . ."

Well, we will see. I judge by different criteria-for instance, by the letters I receive. A good guess is that about one-third to one-half write in from university computers; we can assume most are still students. Some are history teachers, law professors etc.; and quite a few are students in areas of particular interest to us-for instance, journalism, history or law.

Here are some samples of these letters addressed to Ernst Zündel, taken at random:

"I am an OAC law student in London, Ontario. I am currently researching Canada's anti-hate laws and the impact they have on the community at large. As someone who has been charged under these laws, do you feel that they unjustly restrict your right to free speech? If so, what changes would you like to be made to the law? Do you feel that laws should be in place to protect minority groups from persecution . . . ?"

"I am a graduate student at Stanford University and I am doing research into the area of government intervention and censorship on the internet. I would like to ask you a few questions regarding the recent actions of the German government attempting to censor your web site. . ."

"I am a student at Barton Secondary school in Hamilton. I have been given your name to research. Any information that you could send about yourself and about your cause would be of great help to me. . ."

"Hello, this is David, studying politics and government. I recently gave a history teacher the David Cole vidoe tape about Auschwitz . . ."

"I will send you what I sent to over one hundred teachers; our simple goals. I will also send you a newspaper with some of the reaction it caused. . ."

"I just visited your site, and I am impressed. I am convinced that more and more institutions of higher learning are beginning to look at Revisionism in a serious light . . ."

"I am a high school student in Toronto and I was wondering if you would like me to mail you some of the history papers about the HOLOCAUST. I think it would be very interesting to see what grade 10 students are given in high school. . ."

"As an American of German heritage and a scholar of history, specifically the Holocaust and related studies, I would be quite interested to receive some statement explaining exactly how the Holocaust was forged. And who was responsible for perpetrating the most devious and masterful plot, succeeding in duping billions of people. . . ?

"I am a graduate student here at the University of Calgary and I am doing research on your court case and the broader impact it has had on Canadian politics. As I am certain that I won't get your side of the story in any regular broadcast media, I hope that I might trouble you for an interview, or some comments via e-mail. . . "

"I am a 15 year old student from Montreal using a random address found on the accent internet network. Mr. Zündel, I'd like to ask you a question. What makes you believe that everyone is wrong except for you. . . ?

I think that my "realist" correspondent is wrong. There is enormous interest out there. How can you keep the lid on Truth? You can't. If there is more of Holocaust Hucksterism now than there has ever been before-and few of us would argue that!-one might advance the counter-argument that more of that is NEEDED to keep the Lie alive.
