Zgram - Where Truth is Destiny: Now more than ever!

March 21, 2004

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

Whenever I read correspondence like the one below, I am reminded of
the Soviet practice of shooting people in their own orchards if they
as much as said the word "Jew."

Think about that as you see a huge media conglomerate's spokesperson
twisting in the winds, soon to be a hurricane, of enforced political
correctness:

A Zgram reader named "Snider" is asking:

Thank you for the Letter to the Editor from Claude Galipeau,
Executive Director of CBC New Media printed in today's (March 11,
2004) edition of The National Post.

Part of the Letter below states:

"While words such as "Israel," "Jew," "Jewish," and "Palestinian" are
subject to the filter, once the posting is reviewed by the moderator
and it is found to be in keeping with the house rules and the topic
at hand, they are posted. So as you can see, the filtering mechanism
is not meant to be anti-Semitic; in fact, it is the opposite."

If this is the case why is it that my posting (Š) on CBC Web site
bars use of word "J*w*sh’" does not show up when you search for it.

When I searched Google I got: "Your search - "CBC Web site bars use
of word 'J*w*sh" - did not match any documents." (Š)

When I searched CBC today:

"Search Results
Keywords: Snider
No matching items were found"

After I did the searches I could no longer Log In. Although my name
"Snider" was recognized my password and email address was no longer
recognized.

When I requested my password, it never arrived.

I hope this is not a continuation of the CBC "filtering" and that
there is some other explanation that you can clarify for me.

Snider

The message boards on CBC.ca, the Web site for the Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation, are intended as a forum where Canadians may
engage in discussions of CBC programming and CBC's coverage of
current events. As Canada's national public broadcaster, we must
perform a careful balancing act between providing a place where
Canadians can voice their opinions online, and ensuring to the best
of our ability that such abuses as slander, defamatory comments or
hate speech are not found on our services.

To protect against such abuses, and incidents of racial and ethnic
slurs on our message boards, CBC/Radio-Canada employs a filtering
mechanism. When messages including certain 'trigger' words are
submitted, it may appear as though they are being rejected - but in
fact they are being held in a queue for review by a moderator before
they are posted.

While words such as "Israel," "Jew," "Jewish," and "Palestinian" are
subject to the filter, once the posting is reviewed by the moderator
and it is found to be in keeping with the house rules and the topic
at hand, they are posted. So as you can see, the filtering mechanism
is not meant to be anti-Semitic; in fact, it is the opposite. Our
house rules and guidelines are clearly posted on our Web site and
reflect industry-wide practices used by organizations such as NPR,
BBC and the New York Times.

It is true that the filters we employ can place benign messages into
the moderator's queue along with the abusive messages; it is true
that those who wish to have their posts appear immediately can find
ways to trick the filter by altering the trigger words so that the
posting can pass through the filter without review by the moderator;
and it is true that some objectionable material, despite our best
efforts, can slip through. However, the vast majority of our message
forum users are responsible and thoughtful, and committed to
maintaining a lively debate within the parameters we have set.

We value the opportunity for connection, discussion and debate with
CBC listeners, viewers and Web site visitors, and continue to foster
ways for them to communicate their views as freely as possible while
respecting the values, beliefs and differences that define us as
Canadians.

  Claude Galipeau
Executive Director
CBC New Media

I hope the information above has addressed your concerns. Should
you have any further questions about CBC Online, or our radio or
television programming, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Boy, is the Israeli Lobby in Canada ever in trouble! No wonder they
had to resort to a political kidnapping in Tennessee in order to
demonstrate they can and will incarcerate politically incorrect
Freedom of Speech activists so as to demonstrate how "powerful" (
read "terrified") the Canadian Israeli Firsters really are!
