Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

I will let my readers "compare and contrast", as my university profs 
used to say, our lopsided struggle by citing, first, two paragraphs 
from the December issue of the Washington Report on Middle East 
Affairs, (p 9) and then treat you with some additional food for 
thought from our Prisoner of Conscience in Cell #7.

"Now American taxpayers provide some 67 percent of the Holocaust 
Museum's annual budget, this year to the tune of $38.4 million. Its 
funding for fiscal year 2004 was increased to $39,997,000. By 
comparison, this year the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing 
Arts received less than $34 million in federal funding. That figure 
was cut to $32,560,000 for fiscal year 2004.

"On Oct. 12, 2000, moreover, then-President Bill Clinton signed 
legislation granting the museum permanent status as a federal agency, 
in effect locking in federal support. As a museum press release 
explained at the time, "Permanent status permits Congress to provide 
funding without having to review the federal role. Every U.S. 
government entity requires congressional authority before funds can 
be allocated; but not every federal institution is given permanent 
status."

The Zundel Letter below was written to John, one of our long-time 
supporters who offered to help Ernst by sending him some office 
supplies to ease his life a bit.  Ernst replies to John's generous 
offer:

[START]

Unfortunately, John, there is really nothing these people will allow 
into this prison - no pens, not even an electric pencil sharpener or 
even a manual one.  I have never encountered such an inflexible, 
paranoid bureaucracy anywhere. When I think what this country used to 
be like, it amazes me that Canada should have degenerated to such a 
state!

It took repeated requests by my attorney, Paul Fromm on the local 
scene, and the intervention of a Federal Judge to get me a yellow 
marker.  Over seven months to get a marker, a pillow, sheets!   Still 
no post-it notes and no chair in my cell.  I sit on my stacked-up 
		[	Holocaust-related] court transcripts and 
seven fat cerlox-bound volumes - 1806 pages of accusations [against 
me] - all newspaper articles from Canada, the US and Europe of what 
others said, wrote, and did. 

Only 3 tabs out of 129 are items by me.  One is one page long, the 
other one four pages - out of millions of words written and spoken in 
my career!

This is the pitiful "essence" of their case - plus, of course, secret 
evidence by secret witnesses heard in camera, with only the judge and 
the government lawyers present.  My own attorneys and I do not know a 
word of what was presented and claimed - who these people are.  What 
is their ideological or political agenda?  Are they all Jews? 
Disgruntled employees?  Former wives?  Lovers?  Are they men and 
women in legal trouble who will plea-bargain and lie to get a lighter 
sentence?  It could be any of the above.  As the Canadian laws now 
stand, I will never know.

Little did I appreciate the gangster-like lawlessness that has taken 
over the affairs of Canada. I felt it coming on for years, seeing the 
Marxist-Socialist apparatchiks posing as Liberals, penetrating ever 
deeper into the Canadian body politic.  [After I left], I realized 
that I would have to fight for my right to stay with Ingrid in the 
United States and had prepared my documents for any immigration 
hearing before an Immigration judge in the quiet, not to alarm 
Ingrid, for Ingrid is a person without guile who is like Bambi in the 
headlights of a car.  Maybe I should say, in order to be fair to her: 
She WAS a person without suspicion.  I think she had her baptism of 
fire when the handcuffs closed around my wrists and I was taken away 
under the phony charge that I missed an immigration hearing. 
Balderdash!

In the last eight months, Ingrid has had an opportunity to see the 
system at work, see the utter corruption in high places, see her and 
my rights trampled and violated - all compressed into a few months. 
What a cruel learning experience with lots of tiring and scary 
training on the job! She has risen to the occasion and I am very 
proud of her, as we can all be. 

[Her experience] is very similar to what Americans will go through in 
the US in the coming months and years  as the Patriot Act begins to 
be applied [to others than] some poor Arabs and Muslims - and 
dissidents like myself. That is what they did to me.  They did not 
allow me the right to habeas corpus - and then compounded their 
unconstitutional actions by railroading me out of the country via 
drummed-up excuses.  Now we have found out under the Freedom of 
Information Act even from an incomplete Zundel File - released 
censored, with 10% of documents removed - that the courts actually 
conspired to go outside court rules and channels to obtain 
information not in the court file. That is what court officials in 
cahoots with government bodies and officials did!  Knowingly!  Our 
lawyers tell us that all this was totally against the rules and 
regulations in place, and normally unheard-of in American legal 
tradition.  One lawyer called it the most shocking case of judicial 
misconduct he had ever experienced.

We are the fall guys, the hated minority with which the diabolical 
system will get their precedents.  Others will then be railroaded 
using those precedents. If the current crop of ruthless politicians, 
blinded by what unchecked power can give them, are not stopped in 
their tracks now, it will be infinitely more difficult somewhere down 
the road. That's why I once again fight tooth and nail every inch of 
the way. It's a pity that so few patriotic groups [with their] 
publications and websites comprehend the diabolical scheme that has 
been unfolding before their very eyes.  People don't seem to 
understand that this fight is only nominally about me. 

Our fight to the right to habeas corpus is now being carried on by 
our costly team of lawyers.  Costs will soon approach the shocking 
$100,000 mark - and we are not anywhere near trying to appeal to the 
US Supreme Court.  All this [so far] is immigration stuff - actions 
in three different jurisdictions.  If we do not fight [this 
injustice], thousands, maybe millions, will be brutalized and 
railroaded out of the country without due process of law.  228 years 
of cherished American constitutional safeguards will be swept away. 
We, the Zundel Team - and thousands like you, John - we are, in fact, 
the dike holding back the flood.  If we break, nothing will stop the 
inrushing torrent. 

Somehow, we have to find a better way to explain these aspects of the 
Zundel Case to a larger public.  Were I free, I would be on the talk 
show circuit, barnstorming via a telephone hookup - with every 
alternate short-wave and internet radio show out there, holding the 
conspirators' soles to the fire!  Publicity is what they fear. 
That's why I am kept isolated and not allowed to contact media unless 
it is first okay'ed by the Security people and, obviously, the Feds 
in Ottawa. 

Very few people, even in America, realize the primary importance of 
the habeas corpus provision in the American set-up of things.  As a 
German, I have always been enamored by the importance of the First 
Amendment, but it really is meaningless if you are imprisoned by a 
ruthless system without getting a chance to  see a judge and, 
hopefully, be let out on bail so that you can make use of that First 
Amendment, the Second Amendment, or any of the other Amendments. 
Without being free to exercise them, they are a cynical joke played 
on incarcerated people.

I don't know if our supporters understand all that. I will do my part 
to have this changed if there is not a change in my bail situation. 
We really should be able to enlist the help of those groups who  are 
alarmed by the wrecking of the American constitutional process by the 
current regime. The case screams out to be discussed in law schools, 
lawyers' journals, seminars of Civil Rights and non-profit 
foundations concerned with constitutional affairs.  [These outfits] 
ought to prepare briefs as Friends of the Court.  The ACLU should be 
rising along every time our attorneys get up in any court to make any 
motion anywhere until such time that the United States Supreme Court 
puts its foot down and rules that the Constitution stands inviolate - 
and imprisons those who deliberately set out to subvert it under the 
color of law.

It is, in a way, grotesque that I, of all people, not even a 
green-card resident alien, should have to safeguard with our  few 
private resources one of the most sacred rights fought by the 
Founding Fathers of this Republic which has endured over 228 years. 
It means that 300 million Americans are, in effect, letting two 
[demonized] White Germans shoulder the costs and the burdens to 
assure their birthright - which makes this case so shocking!
