Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

Apparently the letter below was written in response to an intelligent 
but thoroughly indoctrinated young German, curious what got Ernst 
Zundel, the legendary activist who could not be defeated,  into the 
horrid place where he is now.  In my book, this is a fascinating 
letter because it shows Ernst's blunt impatience on one hand about 
impertinent young bucks with no perspective about history, and on the 
other hand his willingness to still surf deeply into his own abused 
and battered soul to give a coming generation perspective, sustenance 
- and boundaries. 

This letter is a translation from German to English, crafted by a 
dear friend of ours in England who was once a BDM girl - the female 
counterpart of the male Hitler Youth.  I wish we had more of her 
disciplined kind to help us, willing to do such beautiful work.

Here is Ernst's letter:

Dear young friend,

You have asked me to write to you from the heart and off the cuff 
what I think and feel - and that is what I am trying to do. Whether 
you have the nerve and, above all, the patience to enter into ideas 
and feelings arrived instinctively and by autodidactic means is up to 
you. I think that I have managed to put the basis of my thoughts to 
paper in a brutally frank manner and unembellished.  Obviously it is 
rough and unpolished because I don't know from one minute to the next 
whether I am going to be taken to another cell or another section of 
this prison, or whether I am going to be deported to Germany or to 
Israel before the present legal processes are completed. I live in a 
state of total uncertainty.

Since February the 5th 2003 I have been a plaything in the hands of a 
foreign power - the secret services of the Allied powers, which are 
dominated by Jews.  Every letter is read by the censors in the prison 
here and again outside and finally again in the US. My letters to 
Ingrid take on average 9-12 days and on other occasions 17 or even 21 
days. More than a dozen important letters to Ingrid did not arrive at 
all - highly charged letters containing details of recent proceedings 
and goings on, security measures in our house etc.   

For several weeks I have been beating around the bush wondering how 
to deal with your letter.  As my mother would have colloquially 
quoted: "Like a cat circling a dish of steaming fish" !

I don't know, whether you received my reply to your letter of the 
13th of July. This is the worst of being locked up: one has no 
control, and as a result one no longer knows what exactly is 
happening. If I were free, I would pick up the phone, dial and ask: 
"Hi, young friend, have you received my letter?  Could it be that you 
have overestimated me? Did you know that my knowledge of German 
history [is based on] 8 years at primary school and 3 years of 
commercial school - and that our classes were held in the basement of 
the Protestant church under the guns of the French Occupation Army, 
which was billeted in our school building?" 

My young German comrade!  Can you imagine how ignorant I feel 
compared to you? I have never heard of Reuter or Schubart. The name 
John Turnwater does ring a bell. I have read a few of his articles in 
the German expatriate rag, which is available free at the butchers 
and German bakers here, along  with German rolls and sausages. 
Perhaps you will be amazed by all this. Everything I know about 
history comes from books published by the victorious allies and 
colored by their views and approved by them.

I have had little opportunity to meet Germans or to acquaint myself 
with German ways of thinking. I have not got the foggiest idea of 
what happened in the course of German history, except for what I 
picked up at the barber's in Canada or what I happened to come across 
in an old issue of the 'Spiegel', or the 'Bunte', in 'Quick' or in 
the 'Stern'. Metternich? [He held] no interest for me. King Frederick 
William III? I have felt no desire in distant Canada to bother my 
brain with people like that.  I fight for the people of my nation 
against the lies of gas chambers.

You must understand that I have felt, since childhood, a dislike for 
everything to do with ruling dynasties, kings, emperors, and the 
nobility. I am against all that sort of nonsense. I am really glad 
that these parasitic elements have more or less disappeared - and the 
few who are still around, such as the Habsburg heirs and the Windsors 
in England, are certainly no advertisement for this long-outdated 
form of government. Good riddance!

Visits to Versailles and to the various castles and palaces in 
Vienna, St. Petersburg etc. have only strengthened and deepened my 
antipathy. The ideology of the Emperor Franz Joseph does not appear 
to amount to anything. The Prussian ethos and the stoicism of 
Frederick the Great, on the other hand, I find impressive. It is a 
foundation upon which one can build.

Bismarck? As far as I am concerned, he was a front man for the Jews, 
and the only reason that he has such a good reputation in German 
history right up to now is due to the fact that he opened the doors 
to Jewish bankers and merchants in Germany as well as in the Balkans 
and in Europe generally. I have read a paper called "Behind the 
Scenes of  the Bismarck-Empire". That was enough for me.

The Emperor William the Second?  He makes my blood boil when I think 
of all the German blood spilled as a result of the total penetration 
of Germany by Jewish interests and the complete blindness of the 
German aristocracy with respect to the real dangers threatening 
Germany in the shape of Marxism, the Jews, and Freemasonry. Just like 
the Federal Republic, the Weimar Republic was a shameful thing for 
the able, honest and hard-working German people who, God knows, 
deserved better forms of government and better leaders than it has 
had the misfortune to produce.

Why this has been so in the past, and why it is happening again since 
1945 is something we Germans should work out properly and from first 
principles, and apply the resulting conclusions rigorously in order 
to break this vicious circle once and for all. We must create 
institutions which will produce an elite chosen from the common 
people.

Ass you can see if you consider the above at a glance, I am rather 
prejudiced. In other words, in our past - with the exception of [the 
times of] Frederick the Great and the Grand Duke of Brandenburg 
where there were some positive aspects, but that is about all - as 
far as I am concerned, we have to develop new forms, new institutions 
and methods for ourselves. German history only begins to come alive 
and become interesting with the rise of Adolf Hitler and his 
movement. Everything that was before is [for me] irrelevant.

This may be due, in part, to my complete ignorance of the facts and 
events, especially in matters of constitution and forms of government 
etc. At any rate, it is of little interest to me because it is 
outdated due to the progress in engineering, information technology, 
and history.

Thus what I propose, in order that we might be able to get down to 
business and avoid wasting time: You must tell me about yourself, at 
least in broad outline. What I have in mind is to make [myself] a 
kind of profile of yourself.  After all, I might become a great 
disappointment to you, or we might turn out to be temperamentally 
incompatible. These things do happen. I have experienced that sort of 
thing from time to time. I must know who I am dealing with. Who are 
you? What are your talents and hobbies?  What are your beliefs and 
what, above all, do you think we could do together, based on my 
ideas, now and in the future to help our troubled homeland?

I am ruled by my heart - driven and dictated by instincts.  Hitler, 
in his wonderful way of putting things, would have said: "Ernst 
Zündel still thinks with his blood."

Not that I am driven by wild emotions. On the contrary: you will find 
few nationalist men or women of my generation as meditative as 
myself.  I always try to think every idea through to its conclusion 
and to consider its long- and short-term effects before taking any 
action, and allowing at all times for mid-course corrections if 
deemed necessary. 

One thing I would like to say right away. I am convinced that Germany 
as a nation and as a country - no matter what form will appear one 
fine day - will need in the near future healing of the national soul 
rather than ideologies. I hope you will not be offended by the word 
as such and that you will carefully ponder the underlying concept.

The Americans suffered for 30 years from the 'Vietnam Syndrome', a 
sickness of the soul, because they had failed to win that war - or 
were not allowed to win that war.  I have observed the soul-searching 
of the Americans from close quarters and suffered it up to a point 
with them. This was very easy for me as a German patriot, because if 
ever a nation had a right to feel such post-traumatic stress 
syndrome, it was Germany after the First Word War and even more so 
after World War II. As a people and as a nation, we never had the 
time, the calm or the perspective to overcome the psychological 
effects of the defeat in the First World War - the inflation, the 
Weimar Republic, the world economic crisis and the great depression 
with its unemployment - and to heal the German soul by honestly 
investigating how and why the war had gone wrong. Hitler, as a 
phenomenon of history can only be understood from this point of view, 
from this angle - in no other way! 

All Hitler's speeches and writings as well as "Mein Kampf", and later 
the party programme and all his mass meetings, seminars, statements, 
press conferences, conversations with German and foreign 
industrialists and media barons before he came to power, had 
basically the one aim:  that of overcoming, or at any rate 
ameliorating, the shame and disgrace of the Treaty of Versailles and 
the consequences of the lost war upon the people and the country, and 
to make the situation tolerable for the German masses. In the last 45 
years, I have read hundreds of essays by leading brains, especially 
of the national Germany, on this subject, and I have listened to 
dozens of speeches by Hitler, Goebbels, and Hess as well as by 
Himmler, Lez [??], Darré and others on gramophone records and tapes, 
recorded in the period between the two world wars and stripped of all 
propagandistic clap-trap.  It was a unique attempt by the newly 
formed, natural- and national-thinking circle - not the rotten, 
ossified, aristocratic upper crust caste, which had failed so 
miserably, both during and after the war.  This circle arose out of 
small groups, associations and parties, such as the NSDAP, to heal 
our badly damaged national psyche and to lead our people back to its 
proper place amongst the nations of the world - without hatred or a 
desire for revenge!

The battle against Marxism represented by the center parties, against 
the corroding poison of the Social Democrats with their ineffective 
measures, and the danger from Freemasonry and the arms manufacturers 
of the steel industry were correctly analysed. This battle was an 
attempt at German self-healing, directed towards its center of 
gravity, because everything had become confused [due to] the enemies 
of the German people and society, which had started fighting an inner 
war as a result of propaganda. Many of the "healers" were only 
treating symptoms separately and were consequently doomed to failure, 
in spite of the fact that they meant well and were making superhuman 
efforts, even achieving some partial successes. Only one of them 
understood instinctively the root cause of Germany's illness. That 
was the hitherto completely unknown Lance Corporal Hitler.

Adolf Hitler could see that Germany was sick and bleeding from many 
psychic wounds. That had to be clear to anyone who had eyes to see 
and a brain in his head. There were problems in all directions 
wherever one looked. Only Hitler [developed into a] diagnostician, 
thanks to his intuition and  after decades of studying by himself.

The crowning achievement of these studies was the entirely new and 
unprecedented concept of a  panacea in the shape of an organically 
grown and organically functioning national socialist fellowship of 
the people - the collective common German interest. He, the natural, 
God-sent healer of the soul realized that Germany was in need of a 
holistic therapy - that our people could only regain their health if 
all parts of the national organism were treated simultaneously with 
this new therapy, that this healing process had to take place 
starting from the inside, from the soul, via the spirit outwards to 
all the parts of the body:  in other words, absolutely fundamentally!

In his famous speech before the German Parliament, in which he 
properly confronted his political opponents and made mince-meat out 
of them, he said, if I remember correctly, addressing himself to the 
SPD:   "You have ruined our nation so totally that we will have to 
restart from the very bottom - make an entirely new startŠ" and he 
thundered into the German parliament: "I do not even want you (the 
Social Democrats) to vote for these [Empowering Laws], because 
Germany must become free, and not through you!" He and the movement 
would heal Germany [not with the help of the government but] with the 
help of the millions of volunteer social workers from the Party. They 
would be the "soul and body healers" - and indeed they turned out to 
be so.

[Under Hitler], Germany was subjected to a political, social and 
spiritual decontamination treatment, in the course of which generous 
quantities of castor oil were administered, and many mistakes and 
errors were made which Hitler, Hess and Dr. Goebbels tried to 
minimize by using their power and influence in the Party in order to 
prevent the officialdom from killing and destroying everything right 
at the beginning.  As Dr. Goebbels put it: "From chipping come chips 
- this is unavoidable"!

I got hold of a directive by Hess, in which he addresses the wrong 
decisions made by incompetent personnel within the Party and the 
government and in which he bravely rejects the complaints of 
grumblers and malcontents who tried to use these minor mistakes in 
order to undermine the entire process. It was a simple and modest 
directive, as one would expect from Rudolf Hess, who was popularly 
known as "The Conscience of the Party". The fact that some people had 
been given positions for which they were not suitable was well known 
to the Party and the leadership. And who would have been surprised? A 
nation of some one-hundred million people was beginning to rise up at 
that time. The healing process of the entire nation had begun - from 
inside out and from top to bottom, and the name of this magical cure 
- "Volksgemeinschaft - The fellowship of the people".
