ZGram - Where Truth is Destiny: Now more than ever!
October 10, 2003
Good Morning from the Zundelsite:
It seems I can never quite catch up! For the past few weeks, I have
often bunched up my ZGrams - two ZGrams every second day! I don't
like being behind so often because I am almost completing my 9th year
of having done ZGrams - and almost all of the time, punctually. But
things are sometimes overwhelming - for instance, yesterday I spent
more than half of the day just coordinating things between various
lawyers and trying to keep all the deadlines for meetings, hearings
etc. straight! So bear with me, please. I am doing the very best I
can.
This morning I finally got to open a few of the many unopened letters
left on my desk, and I found one I think is appropriate in the wake
of yesterday's ZGram, only sent out a few minutes ago. Toward the
end of this letter, Ernst kind of obliquely apologizes for me,
knowing that my fuse is getting short. Never mind, I have weathered
worse in my life - and I don't quite agree with Ernst's dire
assessment that things are as bleak as they look. Not if I can help
it - and not as long as my friends and readers stick by me!
Here is today's Prisoner of Conscience Letter, written to a
California friend, well-known to many, called Harvey:
[START]
Dear Harvey, and lovely lady!
Ingrid had told me about the Community News issue discussing my case
from various angles by various writers/contributors from the far
corners of the planet. I am sure that you, once again, were the
driving force, because I have gotten to know this about you: If
something needs to be done, call Harvey! Otherwise projects get
talked to death and only get off the ground when the impact will be
less than if it was done in a timely fashion. Still, thanks go to
Mark Weber, Walter Mueller and his brother, Stan Hess, Fredrick
Töben, Alvin Norberg and some of the people I, of course, don't know!
Harvey, do me a favor - thank everybody involved in this effort, all
the little people, pensioners, those who are on marginal incomes who
for decades have loyally carried the burden of Revisionism without
ever seeking the limelight and thus rarely getting accolades. From
my jail cell in Toronto I want to reach out to them, via you, Harvey,
to shake their hands in spirit, to look them in the eyes and to bow
my head in gratitude for the help extended to Ingrid and myself in
this gravest crisis in our lives.
The facts simply are frightening!
To think that the fate, which has befallen us, happened to us in
America - the land of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin
Franklin, of Thomas Paine and the land of the First Amendment, of
habeas corpus and all the other fine protections enshrined in the
Bill of Rights and the checks and balances anchored in the
Constitution - is what makes this all such a surreal, nightmarish
experience! Despite the two world wars, where through diabolic
machinations and sinister, behind-the-scenes manipulations, Germany
and America saw themselves pitted against one another on the bloody
battle fields of Europe, there remained in me an admiration for
things American which I held since I was a little boy - and still do,
after all this!
Had I not been a Christian pacifist, and had America not had the
military draft at the time, I would have emigrated to America in a
heartbeat way back in 1958. Alas, Canada became my second choice. I
did not have to take up arms against my own brothers.
The rest is history. You know it well, because you have helped me in
my unceasing efforts to bring truth to the world, to replace
propaganda lies with truth in history. You and that valiant band of
truth tellers and truth purveyors made my life's work possible. I
had long ago exhausted my savings!
I had lost my commercial art business due to a Jewish-instigated
boycott and because I had to spend months on end in court every day,
unable to do my customers' work. Now things are still considerably
worse! Before, I could sell my paintings to keep afloat - the arson
of 1995 destroyed and severely damaged most of the ones left over. I
am now incarcerated and cannot tour the country and the world like a
latter-day Martin Luther, an itinerant preacher, which got me in
Europe the nickname "Der Bettelmönch" - the begging monk from Canada.
Ingrid and I are overwhelmed with legal bills which are coming in at
an alarming rate in America and in Canada - especially now that Doug
Christie has to resign due to the devastating illness of his wife.
(...) Doug and Keltie have two school-age children -
gorgeous-looking, highly intelligent children, 10-13 years of age. A
difficult age! Keltie home-schooled them, and undoubtedly cannot
carry on as chemotherapy begins to take its toll.
Thus, Doug warned me months ago that he may have to step back from
the case to stay closer to home. The conditions demand that he do so
now. We had a meeting in jail on the 23-24 of September with the old
and the new legal team. Doug graciously checked them out for me, and
they are working side by side to assure a smooth transition in a very
complex case.
The problem is money! It means that now we have to raise the funds
in Canada alone for four lawyers till around Christmas. Doug will
complete the bail and detention hearings on 12-15 December '03 with
written submissions about the issue of the constitutionality of these
laws enacted hastily after 9/11 in that period of hysteria created by
the attacks on New York. The new lawyers demanded a retainer of
$20,000 up front, which we of course did not have, since we are
already tens of thousands of dollars in the hole in America with
lawyers there. Ingrid bravely negotiated an installment plan payment
schedule, but at $200 an hour for each of two new lawyers, the first
installment has already evaporated, and we are now desperately
scrambling to scrounge for money to pay the next installments, for we
dare not lose these lawyers over money. Two well-known Toronto
lawyers dumped me within weeks of taking the case, when the first
newspaper articles appeared and they saw themselves associated with
the "Zündel-Name". I don't know what they expected would happen -
but they dropped me as a client like a hot potato.
Thus Ingrid and I are in the same position as the German governments
of the Kaiser and Hitler were in World War I and II. We have to
divide our attention and resources between two fronts, the Southern
and the Northern front. Different laws, different charges, different
lawyers. Were I free to travel, speak, mobilize, explain our
situation to my supporters in person, or even were I free to paint
with real colors, I might be able to raise the necessary funds, but
being in prison with only children's coloring pencils makes it all
infinitely more difficult - actually in the long run, practically
impossible.
Had it not been for the tremendous generosity of people like you,
(names deleted) and many little people, I would already be in a
German prison, convicted to a minimum of five years - most likely
like Günther Deckert to 5, 7, 9, 10, eventually maybe 15-20 years if
I live that long. The Germans treat each Internet story or item of a
"revisionist" nature - regardless if it was posted in Canada, the US,
Arabia or elsewhere - as a "new crime" in addition to the first five
years minimum. A "repeat offender" gets no mercy!
We should not be deceived by the cases of Horst Mahler and Fritjof
Meyer - two high profile former Leftists who enjoy temporary
immunity. I am a different case. I am responsible for Leuchter's
Report, and I am known as a defender of Hitler - two cardinal sins!
Only be remaining in Canada or the USA do I have a chance - to live,
literally! Ingrid clings to these [Mahler and Meyer] cases,
understandably, like a drowning person clutches at a straw. I feel
for her. She is a good woman, a person without guile. I hope that
you, Andy and others keep a protective eye on her and understand that
she is under tremendous stress due to this disaster.
(Ingrid's comment here: I passionately disagree! Ernst has never
been on the Internet - he has totally depended on what I pulled down
and printed out for him, and he does not have a comprehensive grasp
of the enormous changes in attitudes that have swept the world since
9/11. I am convinced he sees the world still through pre-9/11
glasses...)
The European scene needs time to evolve. It takes years before
political changes percolate down to the courts - which means that the
American vassal regime [in Germany] will enforce its Draconian,
anti-Revisionist laws to the degree they have until now, and still
do every week in lesser-known cases than Mahler and Meyer, as
illustrated by the grotesque case against the German "Balladier"
Frank Rennicke defended by Horst Mahler, who lost his case and whose
life's savings were confiscated despite the fact that they were in
his wife's name and were a nest-egg to protect his family of five
children in hard times.
Now is the time to pull together and be cautious of false rumours,
backbiting, misunderstandings, of things spoken or written while
fatigued or under pressure of deadlines, money woes, fears and
harassment.
Thank you for being there, Harvey! I know you were going to retire
this year or next. We need you to stay for a while!
All the best,
Ernst Zündel
