SOS ZGram - Where Truth is Destiny: Now more than ever!
March 3, 2003
Good Morning from the Zundelsite:
Before I write anything else, I would still like more readers on my=20
list to sign the petition at=20
http://www.PetitionPetition.com/cgi/petition.cgi?id=3D5230 We are now=20
at 835 signatures, and I would like to have a round 1,000 before we=20
submit it to the Powers that be.=20
Please sign - and spread the word on your respective lists.
Now to some very serious business:
Ernst Zundel is in maximum lockdown in the Niagara Detention Center.=20
I talked to him very briefly yesterday and a little longer this=20
morning. He says the guards hang their heads because they are=20
ashamed at what is happening but will not give him any explanation=20
why he has to be in lock-down 24 hours a day. He says that he is=20
being treated like Rudolf Hess, having his food shoved in without=20
words, being permitted only a plastic spoon/fork combination - called=20
a "spork", by the way - some kind of black humor? He writes his=20
notes to himself and what letters he is allowed to send on the seat=20
of his toilet, the only surface available to him.=20
I believe this treatment is being meted out to keep him from=20
communicating with anyone, including media. The reason is that last=20
Friday, he told the "war crimes" attorney acting for the government=20
that the very agency, namely CSIS, that is trying to brand him as a=20
"terrorist" is the outfit that had knowledge of the parcel bomb en=20
route to the Zundel-Haus to kill him in 1995 - yet did not see fit to=20
warn him or anybody else!=20
This WILL be said at the next hearing - if such a hearing is ever to=20
take place. Allegedly, this hearing, scheduled for Friday, is open=20
to media. When I talked to Ernst this morning, nobody had yet=20
notified him of the date. I feel I have reason to fear that Ernst's=20
enemies will move heaven and earth, and may even attempt to harm him,=20
to prevent this hearing from happening.=20
Here is the pertinent information that has only recently come to=20
light in a book titled "Covert Entry / Spies, Lies and Crimes:=20
Inside Canada's Secret Service" by Andrew Mitrovica.
Andrew Mitrovica is one of Canada's leading investigative=20
journalists. He has won numerous national and international awards=20
for his reporting. He has worked at the fifth estate, CTV national=20
news, W5 and most recently at the Globe and Mail, where he covered=20
security and intelligence issues. Born in Melbourne, Australia,=20
Mitrovica lives in Toronto.
The inside book flap carries this text:
"Canada's espionage agency, CSIS, enjoys operating deep in the=20
shadows. Set up as a civilian force in the 80s after the RCMP spy=20
service was abolished for criminal excesses, the Canadian Security=20
Intelligence Service was to be a squeaky-clean contrast to its=20
disgraced predecessors. But it's hard for Canadians to get a fix on=20
how well CSIS is doing its job or how well it is behaving. This=20
country's spymasters work diligently to prevent journalists,=20
politicians and watchdog agencies from prying into their secret world.
"Few journalists have come close to rivalling Andrew Mitrovica at=20
unveiling the stories CSIS does not want told. In COVERT ENTRY, the=20
award-winning investigative reporter uncovers a disturbing pattern of=20
venality, law-breaking and incompetence deep inside the service, and=20
provides a fascinating window on its daily operations.
"At its core, COVERT ENTRY traces the eventful career of John=20
Farrell, a veteran undercover operative who worked on some of the=20
service's most sensitive cases and was ordered to break the law by=20
senior CSIS officers in the name of national security. Mitrovica=20
delivers a ground level, day-to-day look at who is actually running=20
the show in national clandestine operations. The picture he paints=20
definitively shatters the myth that CSIS respects the rights and=20
liberties it is charged with protecting."
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
>From the back flap we learn this about John Farrel, the CSIS=20
undercover agent who came out of the closet about his, and other=20
operatives', illegal activities:
"As a dedicated operative in CSIS's covert war against terrorists and=20
spies, John Farrell was once a true believer in the intelligence=20
service's "Ways and Means Act": if you have a way to get things=20
done, the means - legal or not - are justified. He is the first CSIS=20
operative to openly discuss the details of his highly classified=20
work. Whether he is condemned or applauded for breaking his silence,=20
Farrell is offering up his story so that Canadians can gain a clearer=20
understanding of what actually takes place in this country in the=20
name of national security. And what this unofficial tour deep inside=20
the service's cloistered world reveals is an alarming portrait of=20
incompetence - and worse."
This hardcover, put out by Random House Canada, is listed at $35.95=20
and is available from Amazon.=20
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
Mitrovica addresses how CSIS dealt with Ernst Zundel, a lifelong=20
opponent of those individuals, groups and organizations who do not=20
want the orthodox version of the Holocaust challenged, much less=20
investigated. In the vernacular referred to as the Holocaust Lobby,=20
Zundel has many times characterized the actions of this powerful and=20
ruthless entity as being an extortion racket based on fictitious=20
stories regarding the genocidal gassings of Jews in World War II in=20
German concentration camps.=20
As you read Mitrovica, please keep in mind that this investigative=20
journalist describes a highly unpopular, politically incorrect=20
dissident activist who has been systematically demonized by Canadian=20
media for decades - while under a judge's gag order for years that=20
prevented him from defending his motives and honor.
Page 136 - 140 of Covert Entry:
Mitrovica: Ernst Zundel was another prime target of CSIS's allegedly=20
covert campaign against white supremacists. For years, the balding,=20
German-born immigrant ran what amounted to an anti-Semitic propaganda=20
factory from his Victorian home in downtown Toronto. Working out of=20
his ramshackle basement, Zundel churned out pamphlets on his printing=20
press, held meetings and gave lectures, all with a common theme: the=20
Holocaust was a hoax.
(Zundelsite comment: Ernst Zundel did not work out of a "ramshacke=20
basement". He worked out of a four-story Victorian home on prime=20
real estate in downtown Toronto - a 14-room building packed to the=20
ceiling with original documents, newspaper clippings, books,=20
pamphlets, affidavits, original World War II memoirs, photographs,=20
slides, audios and videos, court transcripts, government documents=20
etc.
The Zundel-Haus was probably the world's largest private repository=20
of evidence documenting that the true events of World War II were=20
different from the brutal Hollywood-created version depicting Germans=20
as genocidal monsters on a rampage to kill every Jew in sight,=20
primarily by "gassing".=20
The Zundel-Haus was burned down on May 9th, 1995 - on the 50th=20
anniversary of Germany's surrender to the Allies in 1945. Street talk=20
quickly pointed to a culprit. Ernst turned over to the police the=20
name and address of a punk who had been paid $200 by "someone" to=20
douse the building with gasoline - a criminal act of the first order=20
that was actually caught on a surveillance video. Canadian police=20
chose to do nothing with this tip and never even questioned the=20
street person who did it.)=20
Mitrovica: The man who once described Hitler as his idol distributed=20
his message to fellow travellers around the globe in an infamous=20
booklet entitled DID SIX MILLION REALLY DIE? In it, Zundel claimed=20
the Holocaust was a Jewish-inspired fraud. Canada Post temporarily=20
stopped delivering Zundel's mail in 1981 because he was using the=20
postal service to spread hatred. In 1985, Zundel was sentenced to 15=20
months in jail after being found guilty of wilfully causing harm to=20
Canada's racial and social harmony.=20
(Zundelsite comment: This paragraph is misleading through omission.=20
A postal commission, investigating the charge that Zundel "spread=20
hatred", cleared him of the charge after a year's worth of=20
investigation, stating in its verdict that - and here I quote from=20
memory - "the Holocaust is an issue between two peoples, the Germans=20
and the Jews" - recommending that the Canadian government should keep=20
its nose out of it.=20
The 15 months sentence was the result not of the judgment of the=20
postal hearing - it was the result of what is known as the FIRST=20
GREAT HOLOCAUST TRIAL of 1985, where, upon appeal, the judge was=20
found biased, leading via many legal detours to the 1988 SECOND GREAT=20
HOLOCAUST TRIAL which gave birth to the best-selling Leuchter Report,=20
still a thorn in the Holocaust/Zionist-Lobbyists side.=20
The charge of these two trials that rocked the foundations of the=20
Holocaust myth, was not that Ernst was "wilfully causing harm to=20
Canada's racial and social harmony" - it was that Zundel was=20
"spreading false news." This charge, brought by a Holocaust survivor=20
but soon taken over by the government, was based on an ancient law=20
out of the Thirteenth Century in England that Canada had on its=20
books, forbidding wandering minstrels to "defame the kings" with=20
ribald songs. That legal prohibition had no relevance in modern=20
Canada. After a nine-year legal battle, on August 27, 1992, the=20
Supreme Court of Canada overturned this ancient law, striking down=20
the "false news" law as a violation of the guarantee to free speech=20
contained in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, thereby=20
adopting Z=FCndel's viewpoint on freedom of speech. The court's=20
decision, as summarized in the headnote to the case, was as follows:
Section 2(b) of the Charter protects the right of a minority to=20
express its view, however unpopular it may be. All communications=20
which convey or attempt to convey meaning are protected by s. 2(b),=20
unless the physical form by which the communication is made (for=20
example, a violent act) excludes protection. The content of the=20
communication is irrelevant. The purpose of the guarantee is to=20
permit free expression to the end of promoting truth, political or=20
social participation, and self-fulfillment. That purpose extents to=20
the protection of minority beliefs which the majority regards as=20
wrong or false. Section 181, which may subject a person to criminal=20
conviction and potential imprisonment because of words he published,=20
has undeniably the effect of restricting freedom of expression and,=20
therefore, imposes a limit on s. 2(b).
In the Mitrovica paragraph that follows, the author summarizes this=20
legal battle spanning almost a decade:)
"Three years later, [Zundel's] conviction was upheld on appeal. But=20
in 1992, Zundel won an unexpected victory when the Supreme Court of=20
Canada overturned his conviction on a charge of knowingly spreading=20
false information about the Holocaust. The decision, not=20
surprisingly, thrilled and emboldened the Holocaust denier and his=20
supporters, including the nascent Heritage Front.=20
(Zundelsite Comment: The Heritage Front was an organization=20
ostensibly created for the purpose of giving White Canadian Youth a=20
place where they could find some fellowship and mutual support in a=20
violently hostile multicultural environment that routinely=20
discriminated against them by favoring non-white immigrants in=20
seeking employment, scholarships, grants etc. I say "ostensibly",=20
for as was discovered shortly thereafter, the Heritage Front was, in=20
fact, a CSIS setup where a CSIS-paid agent provocateur, Grant=20
Bristow, tried to provoke and incite White kids to foolish racist=20
statements and even violence. When a Toronto reporter, Bill Dunphy,=20
exposed this CSIS infiltration of the Heritage Front to the media, it=20
caused a huge public relations problem for CSIS. Eventually, there=20
was a government whitewash, and the "problem" petered out.=20
This CSIS sore broke open around 1995 - exactly at a time when a=20
Toronto mob of street punks, called ARA (Anti-Racist Action) was used=20
by persons unknown to inflame Canadians against Ernst Zundel. At one=20
time, the city was blanketed by thousands of posters showing Ernst's=20
face in the cross-hairs of a rifle and giving a map of the location=20
of the Zundel-Haus. This hate- and defamaation campaign soon=20
thereafter led to the actual fire-bombing of the Zundel building.) =20
Mitrovica: After winning his legal reprieve, Zundel often made=20
public appearances wearing a hard hat and carrying a large wooden=20
cross.=20
(Zundel-Haus comment: Actually, I believe he carried the cross only=20
once to force a photo op, knowing that an otherwise hostile media=20
would not be able to resist this visual. The cross still exists in a=20
safe place in Canada. One day it will grace a Free Speech museum.)
Mitrovica: To his followers, [Zundel] was a courageous martyr in the=20
fight to protect freedom of speech. His opponents thought=20
differently. In late 1993, they descended on his home, hurling paint=20
canisters and eggs.
(Zundelsite comment: Actually, they hurled more than eggs. They=20
defecated into plastic bags and hurled feces! Somewhere among my=20
tapes there exists a recording of the howling of that mob, chanting=20
"Kill Zundel! Burn Zundel down!" If you listen to that tape, you'll=20
think you hear the howl of devils!)
Mitrovica: Zundel had prepared for the onslaught by wrapping his=20
home in plastic. Riot police beat back the demonstrators. The ugly=20
skirmish helped Zundel and his admirers get the media attention they=20
longed for.=20
(Zundelsite comment: This is a typical comment by a liberal=20
journalist brainwashed into assuming that Zundel's cause was unjust=20
and was not based on years of serious, detailed study of the=20
Holocaust issue that led to his conclusion that the Holocaust was=20
merely a propaganda piece to extract reparations from Germany and=20
good-will gestures, including lavish financial aid and other perks,=20
for the Israeli and Disaspora Jews from the United States and other=20
Western countries. Ernst has always been a convenient target for=20
ritual denigration by mainstream media. Sadly, Mitrovica is no=20
exception.)=20
Mitrovica: But CSIS was also training a close eye on Zundel. The=20
service was busy intercepting mail for Zundel's home from a postal=20
station at 1 Yonge Street. Farrel says Zundel was also watched by=20
the service. The APIs were called when Hitler's admirer was seen=20
posting mail. A Canada Post driver would then be summoned to open=20
the mailbox and allow an API to retrieve the mail. Who was this API?=20
Frank Pilotte, [a postal inspector] though Farrell was often=20
enlisted to help. Letters and packages for Zundel arrived from all=20
over the world. On some days he received as many as 20 pieces of=20
registered mail. CSIS was keen to establish a list of Zundel's=20
worldwide supporters by noting the return addresses attached to each=20
piece of correspondence. To Farrell's surprise, Zundel often=20
received letters of encouragement and support from doctors, lawyers,=20
university professors, as well as prison inmates.
(Zundelsite comment: Ernst Zundel has many distinguished admirers=20
all over the world who have followed his outreach campaign for=20
decades. It does great injustice to the image of this decent and=20
non-violent human rights activist, who has dedicated his life to the=20
defense of his vilified parents' generation, to paint Ernst Zundel as=20
some political dimwit, hysterical "Neo-Nazi", or media-greedy=20
publicity hound. He has thousands of letters from distinguished=20
sources all over the world that prove otherwise.) =20
Mitrovica: Farrell noticed that Pilotte took a particular interest=20
in Zundel's mail. Just how much interest became apparent early one=20
morning when the two APIs met behind a large grocery store on=20
Danforth Avenue. Pilotte drove up in his white Buick, while Farrell=20
arrived in his Geo Metro, a car he liked because it saved him money=20
on gas. Pilotte had just returned from the postal station carrying a=20
batch of Zundel's letters. As he flipped through the mail, Pilotte=20
noticed that one letter was partially open. Curious, he decided to=20
unseal it. Farrell urged him not to, warning him that the letters=20
might be booby-trapped and that he was only inviting more trouble=20
from Lunau. [Don Lunau was Farrell's superior] Pilotte opened the=20
letter. Inside, he found a short note addressed to "Dear Ernst"=20
urging the Holocaust denier to continue his campaign "to tell the=20
truth." To help in that effort, the letter also contained a=20
ten-dollar American bill, which the API slipped back into the=20
envelope.
"It was amateurish," Farrell says. "It was none of the API's=20
business what was in the mail."
Farrell didn't want to get embroiled in Pilotte's escapades, but as=20
the program's troubleshooter, he had little choice. He told Lunau,=20
who once again went easy on Pilotte.
Then Farrell caught a break on the Zundel beat during one of his=20
routine visits to Canada Post's station at 1 Younge Street.=20
Dishevelled and unshaven, he arrived at 6:30 a.m. and walked up to=20
the station's second floor offices. He lumbered through a door=20
leading to a restricted area that housed bag after bag of registered=20
mail. On his way, he waved at Patrick Hilberg, the registration=20
clerk who often handled Zundel's registered mail, and George Fyfe,=20
the station's supervisor. Farrell had befriended them because he=20
knew the pair could make his job a whole lot easier. They didn't=20
know he was working for CSIS; they assumed he was still a postal=20
inspector.
Farrell began rifling through the mail bags, searching for Zundel's=20
registered mail. He often had to flick through a thousand pieces=20
before plucking out Zundel's letters and packages. The mail, marked=20
priority post, arrived from Australia, Germany, Austria, France and=20
Switzerland. It was imperative that Farrell get his hands on the=20
mail before Hilberg, because once the clerk documented its arrival,=20
the clock began ticking on how long the service could hold on to the=20
letters and packages. The sooner Farrell dumped Zundel's letters=20
back into the mail stream, the less likely Zundel would complain=20
about how tardy the postal service was.
(Zundelsite comment: Incidentally, just yesterday I received a=20
letter that Ernst had written to me on February 14, 2003, sent out of=20
Blount County Jail, located 45 minutes from where I live. It took 17=20
days to arrive!)
Mitrovica: Farrell reached into the mail bag and pulled out a small=20
box. Later he learned that he had just laid his hands on the=20
Heritage Front's complete membership list and the names and addresses=20
of every individual in Canada and overseas who received Zundel's=20
anti-Semitic literature.
(Mitrovica assumes that the Heritage Front mailing list and the=20
Zundel-Haus mailing list are identical. Not so! To my knowledge,=20
CSIS never did get the Zundel-Haus mailing list. They tried to=20
compile one on their own, as stated above, by copying the return=20
addresses of Zundel supporters.)
Mitrovica: It was an extraordinary stroke of luck. Rarely did that=20
kind of information fall so conveniently into the laps of spy=20
services. Finally, Farrell thought, Operation Vulva had paid=20
dividends.
(Zundelsite comment: Does the name of this undercover operation=20
spell who was behind it? Those of us who have been the target of=20
relentless Jewish hatred have always been amazed at how sexual=20
innuendos, and especially a perverted fascination with feces, creeps=20
into our enemies actions and words - notice the "shit bombs" hurled=20
at the Zundel-Haus during various mob demonstrations!)
Mitrovica: Handling Zundel's mail was a risky business. Violence=20
gravitated to the Holocaust denier. A pipe bomb once exploded=20
behind his Carlton Street home, causing extensive damage.=20
(Zundelsite comment: Actually, it exploded *inside* his garage in=20
1984, prior to the FIRST GREAT HOLOCAUST TRIAL in 1985. the culprit=20
has never been apprehended.)
Mitrovica: Farrell was always concerned when he intercepted Zundel's=20
mail. He knew the self-promoting propagandist had enemies and that=20
one day one of them might use the mail to deliver an unmistakable and=20
violent message to his front door. Farrell liked his hands and=20
wanted to keep them.
(Zundelsite comment: Now read the next Mitrovica paragraphs carefully:)
Lunau warned the APIs to be especially careful when handling any mail=20
addressed to Zundel from a post office box from Vancouver. He=20
refused to explain why the Vancouver address was on a watch list, but=20
it was clear that he was worried that mail from that address might be=20
used to conceal a bomb.
Farrell's own nervousness peaked when Lunau ordered him to=20
temporarily stop intercepting parcels destined for Zundel's home. "I=20
got a call from Lunau and he said, 'Stop checking the parcels. Just=20
check the registered letters,' Farrell recalls. Lunau wasn't=20
kidding. Farrell could hear the urgency in his voice.
In May 1995, a package arrived at Zundel's door apparently from a=20
Vancouver post office box. Zundel let the package sit unopened in=20
his home for nearly a week before claiming to notice that "it made a=20
funny noise" when he shook it. He drove the suspicious package,=20
cushioned by a bag of bird seed in the trunk of his car, to a local=20
police station, where bomb experts discovered that it contained a=20
powerful pipe bomb filled with large nails. Police cordoned off a=20
block around the 51 Division police station in downtown Toronto. A=20
remote-controlled robot gingerly placed the package in a blast-proof=20
hopper. Later, the pipe bomb was detonated at a nearby spit, leaving=20
behind a large crater. Zundel said the parcel, camouflaged to look=20
like a book, bore an outdated return address for the post office box=20
of his friend Tony McAleer, a B.C.-based white supremacist. Police=20
said the bomb was packed with enough explosives to seriously maim or=20
kill anyone within ninety meters of the blast.
Zundel was certain that Jewish groups were behind a plot to kill him.=20
Initially, police investigated a phone call to the Toronto Sun by=20
someone claiming responsibility in the name of an unknown=20
organization called Jewish Armed Resistance. But the police weren't=20
convinced that the Holocaust denier was telling the truth about the=20
circumstances leading up to the discovery of the mail bomb. Why had=20
Zundel waited five days before alerting them to the suspicious=20
package?
(Zundelsite comment: The bomb arrived 10 days after the Zundel-Haus=20
burned down, destroying an irreplacable library and causing $400,000=20
damage. Volunteers by the dozens descended on the Zundel-Haus from=20
all over the US and Canada to help clean up the damage. To say that=20
those were hectic days is putting it politely. A few days before=20
this parcel arrived, Ernst had received a poorly written letter,=20
gloating about the arson and stating "Next time it will be BOOM!"=20
He received book parcels by the dozens every day - it was natural=20
that after this warning, he would be on the lookout for suspicious=20
parcels. He handled this one, thought it was too heavy for a book,=20
put it aside after instructing his staff not to touch it and,=20
frankly, forgot about it in the havoc of dealing with the horrid=20
destruction of his life's work caused by both fire and water.=20
During the weekend, when things had quieted down a bit, he remembered=20
the parcel, even shook it - and then realized, after a totally=20
coincidental phone call by the "addressee", that the return address=20
was an outdated address. That's when he knew it was a bomb. It=20
could not have been a book sent by Tony.
Ernst called me that night in San Diego. He told me that when he=20
took that bomb to the police station, carefully bedded on a bird seed=20
box, his "...hair stood up on end" as de drove it carefully around=20
every bump on the road. When I asked him why he had not, instead,=20
called police to come and get the parcel, he said: "Do I need to get=20
the neighborhood upset with screeching police cars and howling=20
sirens? The neighbors are already traumatized by the fire which=20
could easily have killed the kids in the neighbor's house who had to=20
jump out of the window, stark naked..." In other words, he did not=20
want to call attention to himself, fearing more hostility.
As a sidebar, it should also be mentioned that when Ernst told the=20
police what he had delivered to them, their snide response was that=20
he may have sent the bomb to himself - for attention!)
Mitrovica: By late summer, however, the skepticism evaporated.=20
Several police forces launched a joint probe after mail bombs were=20
sent to five different targets: Zundel; another B.C.-based white=20
spremacist, Charles Scott; the Mackenzie Institute, a Toronto-based=20
terrorism and security-policy think tank; Kay Gardner, a Toronto=20
City councillor; and Alta Genetics, Inc., a Calgary cattle-breeding=20
centre. The Mounties believed that four of the bombs originated in=20
Vancouver.
The mystery surrounding the mail bombs was solved when a shadowy=20
group of anarchists, called the Militant Direct Action Task Force,=20
sent "communiqu=E9s" to several media outlets claiming responsibility=20
for all the potentially lethal letters, save the one to Kay Gardner.=20
In its letters, which provided compelling evidence that the group was=20
behind the mail bombs, the anarchists responded to media reports=20
about the grave dangers to postal workers who had unwittingly handled=20
the mail bombs. "We have tested our devices and found that only=20
extremely rough handling (or opening them) would cause them to=20
detonate. All packages have been marked PERSONAL to keep=20
unauthorized people from opening them," the group wrote.
(Zundelsite comment: We believe the so-called Militant Direct=20
Action Task Force was a "false road flare" diverting attention away=20
from two highly suspect culprits, last names Thursten and Barbarash.=20
This terrorist duo was arrested, along with a girl, last name Rubin,=20
after the most intensive telephone spy operation ever in Canada - as=20
I recall it, 7,000 hours, that led the mounties to a storage place=20
belonging to the suspects where bomb making equipment was stored.=20
The Canadian Mounties know a thing or two about those people. So,=20
one might reasonably suspect, does CSIS. There were even the=20
beginnings of a trial in Vancouver, but the case has been dropped and=20
the records have been sealed - for reasons of "national security"!=20
Incidentally, the original arrest warrant stated that it was issued=20
"for suspicion of attempted murder of Ernst Zundel." Later, that=20
phrase mysteriously disappeared.)=20
Mitrovica: Farrell is convinced that the package containing the pipe=20
bomb delivered to Zundel's home was intercepted by either himself or=20
Pilotte. This raises the possibility that the intelligence service=20
was aware of the package's potentially lethal cargo before Zundel=20
received it. Farrell says Lunau's warning to temporarily stop=20
intercepting packages addressed to Zundel's home came only after=20
police had detonated the first pipe bomb. What CSIS might have done=20
to alert either Canada Post, Toronto Police or Zundel himself remains=20
a mystery. But what is clear is that the rash of letter bombs=20
prompted police to issue an extraordinary warning to Canadians to be=20
extremely cautious when receiving unexpected packages or letters.
Regrettably, Farrell says, Canada's spy service failed to heed the=20
warning and, as a result, unnecessarily put the lives of Canadians at=20
risk. That's because when CSIS resumed the interception of Zundel's=20
mail, it continued to ship hard-to-open packages by passenger plane=20
to Ottawa for inspection, even though a pipe bomb had already been=20
discovered. "My concern was that there could always be a bomb in=20
Zundel's mail," Farrell says. "And how are we sending that stuff up=20
to Ottawa? It was being shipped by Air Canada. So what do you think=20
was likely to happen if a bomb went off while we were transporting=20
his mail by commercial jet?"
Farrell repeatedly raised this issue with Lunau. "I was concerned=20
about my own safety and the crew and passengers on the plane. I=20
told Donnie many times that I didn't think it was wise to send=20
Zundel's packages up to Ottowa by plane. But he didn't seem that=20
concerned. I would say, 'Don, for the record, we shouldn't be doing=20
