Disorder In The Court
City Pulse | Toronto
It’s an old name associated with an old hate.
Ernst
Zundel may no longer be in Canada, but the reverberations from his actions
continue to echo around the world.
The man who claims the Holocaust never really happened is on trial in
Germany
for denying the horrible mass murders.
And now one of his allies has gotten into trouble of her own in a disturbing
incident that took place in a Manheim courtroom Wednesday.
A defence lawyer for the Nazi supporter had to be physically carried out of
the
hall of justice, after a judge ruled she was disrupting the proceedings.
Court officers carried Sylvia Stolz out of the room, as she screamed,
“Resistance! The German people are rising up.”
She drew the judge’s ire after denouncing the proceedings as a “tool of
foreign
domination” and Jews as an “enemy people” in earlier sessions. Other
supporters
left the court with her.
Stolz had previously been ordered removed as Zundel's defender due to her
extreme views and courtoom actions.
Zundel is a former Toronto resident who spent most of his time in this
country
insisting the history books are full of inaccuracies about the Holocaust.
The Nazi-led mass slaughter of Jews claimed over six million lives during
World
War II, and despite overwhelming records kept by the Germans themselves and
testimony from survivors, some continue to maintain the historical fact is
fiction.
Zundel, whose hard hat and hard line became a familiar sight in the city,
was
finally deported to Germany in 2005.
He was immediately charged with Denying the Holocaust, a serious crime in
that
country. But his trial has been continually delayed and intermixed with
politics, hatred and confusion, as supporters denounce the prosecution as a
persecution.
