Zundel Now
Nationwide demonstrations are planned
for February 5th, 2005 and this weekend to protest the political kidnapping
and illegal detention of Ernst Zundel.
For
nearly two years now, Ernst Zundel -- a German-born civil rights activist,
writer and publisher -- has been held in solitary confinement in a Canadian
prison on the empty pretext that he is "a threat to national
security."
Ernst Zundel has spent a lifetime correcting in peaceful ways the unfair
characterization of World War II Germans as genocidal maniacs intent on
killing people in gas chambers. As such, he has made powerful political
enemies who have the ears of obedient politicians.
On February 3, 2003, Zundel was abducted from
his home in Tennessee by immigration officials, assisted by local law
enforcement officers, and deported to Canada, where he had previously spent
46 years of his life. Since then he has been held in solitary confinement
under brutal conditions for more than two years. The goal is to deport this
man to Germany where he faces five years in prison for "Holocaust
Denial," which is NOT (yet!) a crime in either Canada or the United
States.
Zundel is in prison NOT because his views are unpopular, or because he's a
"security risk." He's in prison because Jewish groups want him
there. He's a prisoner because he promotes views that the Jewish-Zionist
lobby considers harmful to its interests.
So blatant is the injustice associated with Zundel's incarceration that even
Canada's most prestigious daily papers, the Toronto
Globe and Mail and the National Post, have condemned it.
To mark the second anniversary of his detention, friends of Ernst Zundel and
supporters of Freedom of Speech are protesting this weekend before various
Canadian Consulates in the U.S., as well as in other countries such as
Sweden.

What media should know about Ernst Zundel:
-
He
was living lawfully in the United States as the husband of a U.S.
citizen.
-
He has no criminal record either in the U.S.A. or
Canada. In fact, he was totally cleared in a recent, extensive
investigation by the FBI.
-
There have been no charges brought against him in
Canada. The Government of Canada has not brought forth any witnesses.
The evidence against him is not made known to him or to his attorneys.
Ernst Zundel is the victim of a Stalinist
Show Trial in a so-called "democratic" country. He has
internationally agreed-upon rights enshrined in entities such as the United
Nations Declaration of Rights and Freedoms, to which both the United States
and Canada are signatories. He is a victim of egregious judicial
malpractice. His
treatment is an absolute disgrace and brings great shame to Canada.
For further information, please consult the website of the Institute for
Historical Review, ihr.org
or call its Director and spokesman for the Zundel family, Mark
Weber, at 949-631-1490.
Just a quick reminder to everyone participating in the numerous Zundel
support protests -- please remember that Ernst is, and always has been a
pacifist! While we know the JDL is anything but, and they may well be there
to cause as much of a ruckus as they can, let's demonstrate to everyone
watching that Zundel's friends have higher standards. We, like Ernst, stand
for peace, truth, justice and all the great American ideals. -- Heinz
Bartesch, San Francisco organizer.
