ZGram: Where Truth is Destiny

April 14, 2001

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

Of course our enemies hate nothing more than have us short-circuit one of their psychological arrows in their arsenal - for instance when they discover, to their dismay, that those of us who have been smeared as "racists" have friends and allies in our neighborhood that make that smear invalid.

As I have often said, without apologies or even explanations I love my race above all other races - so go ahead and call me anything you want! - just as I love my family above all other families and my own kids above all other children.

Does it then follow that I "hate" all other races, all other families or other people's children? Of course not. I simply say: "To each his own" and let it go at that.

One of my cyber friends is one fine scribe who happens to be black. Her name is Elizabeth Wright. I feel a kinship with that lady because her thoughts and mine run in similar grooves. She sneers at "reparations", she is a firm believer in the Bootstrap Argument, and she is sick and tired of living on her knees. I can relate to that. On a couple of occasions, I have featured her essays in ZGrams, but I neglected in the last one to give her URL.

It's http://www.issues-views.com/ - The website is worth your attention.

This came last night. It has a line or two worth quoting and remembering:

[START]

>From Elizabeth Wright:

Last night (Thurs., April 12), on the Columbia campus, Prof. Norman

Finkelstein and Israeli author Israel Shamir spoke (along with Prof.

Edward Said, who I missed). Hopefully, a tape of this event will be

available, especially the Q&A at the end, which is always the best

anyway! The event was entitled, "The Struggle for Equality Between Jews and Arabs: Prospects for a Just Peace in the Middle East."

Two of their responses to questions stand out. Although most of the questions were on, shall we say, a high level, the inevitable one came up about how long the Jews have occupied the land.

So, what, Finkelstein was asked, did he have to say to the fact that this length of residency justifies their present behavior?

Professor Finkelstein, first looking totally exasperated, which made the large, packed auditorium erupt in laughter, finally responded, "You know, if I were sitting in my apartment and somebody knocked on my door holding a book, and told me that the book said that he had the right to my home because his people had lived there 2000 years ago, I would immediately get on the phone to Bellevue [NYC's premier mental hospital] and have him locked up!"

Israel Shamir, always in tune with the media, discussed the reality of

daily media conditioning when it comes to the Israel story. He said that almost daily, one turns on the TV to see some sad story about the suffering Jews. If it's not the Holocaust, then it's about some event in Israel. When a Jew is shot or bombed, the American media shows you the weeping family of the victim and plays up the personal aspects of the victim's life. Yet, when it's a Palestinian victim, statistics are merely given and you see nothing more. Shamir said that fighting this relentless bias is a difficult task.

These are two outstanding men. It was great to see how young they are--neither looks like he's turned 50--so, hopefully, we can have their astuteness, objectivity, and scholarship around for another 30 years, at least.

Thought for the Day:

"[Is it not surprising] that the Jews have not claimed any compensation for slave labour from the Egyptian government - with interest of course, for the survivors of the detention in Egypt?"
