I give you herewith a glimpse of the November Power letter that goes out to all Zundel supporters. I always find it fascinating to watch the world as impacted by what we call Revisionism and our enemies call "Holocaust Denial".
What a time we live in! Israel kills Palestinians, many of them children, using dum-dum bullets by specially trained, silencer-equipped gunmen - and the world yammers on as if this kind of barbaric behavior was natural and accepted behavior. In America, the electorate is so equally divided that even electing a President turns into a political, legal and ideological quagmire unprecedented in American history. (On the Internet, the Gore-Lieberman ticket is widely called the Sore Loserman ticket!) Vote scams, vote fraud, vote manipulation and voting irregularities shock not only America but the rest of the world. The stock markets nose-dive. Uncertainty reigns. People seem incredulous, even stunned. It seems as if everything is spinning out of control, and society is caught in a vortex-like, permanent turmoil. There is a frenzied tone about it all.
It is against this background that the Zundelsite Tribunal hearings and the concomitant financial and organisational tribulations in Toronto were taking place this month. We were on a veritable roller coaster of emotions, with feelings running high one moment, dipping into the darkest abyss the next. Witnesses who had agreed to testify, suddenly were not testifying, some for obvious health reasons, others, like Jürgen Rieger, who was going to testify of how the Hate Laws and anti-Revisionist laws were manipulated into being and passed into law in Germany and the rest of Europe, simply could not make it in the time slots needed because of court dates in Germany. Like Doug Christie, Rieger is constantly in court defending patriots who are harassed by Governments and special interest groups - because the truths they tell are dangerous to the corrupt and morally bankrupt ruling elite. This is a world-wide phenomenon.
Our present governments have been captured by well-known lobbyists and in many parts of the world do the bidding of these special interest groups, becoming in effect the enforcers of the agendas of these lobbies. Ralph Nader and Pat Buchanan gathered millions of votes by pointing out this social ill, and by promising to do something about it - this in spite of a virtual media black-out of their campaigns. It was instructive to watch how hard the media tried to ignore particularly Pat Buchanan - every once in a while there would be a passing reference that Buchanan got this treatment because he wrote a book in which he said that ". . . it was a mistake for America to have gone to war against Hitler". One more time proof - if proof is still needed! - that Hitler, who passed into the pages of history over half a century ago, is still a factor in American politics today!
In Canada, too, ancient history was dredged up and used as a club with which to bludgeon the opposition in Canada's current federal election. The Minister of Immigration, Elinor Caplan, referred to the most dangerous rival of the ruling Liberal party, Stockwell Day, who heads the new Canadian Alliance Party, as ( gasp!) a "Holocaust Denier." Doug Christie (Zundel lead attorney) has become the new bogey man in some of the large mainstream media because he allegedly had ties to, or supposedly endorsed, Stockwell Day. A Christie meeting in the city of Edmonton suddenly turned into a national event when it was called a "rally" by the media, no doubt conjuring up the massed formations of Nazi stormtroopers descending on the poor citizens of out-of-the-way Edmonton. Naturally, when Christie is smeared, his clients like Jim Keegstra and Ernst Zundel as well as Malcolm Ross, all "Holocaust Deniers", of course, are also prominently mentioned.
Even as we prepare this Power letter, over the Internet comes floating an interesting article published today. It reads in part:
Edmonton Sun | November 17, 2000
And Zundel used to be a Liberal | PAUL STANWAY
I've looked for Stockwell Day's horns and I haven't been able to find them.
He didn't have any the last time I talked to him, but that was months ago and with everything I've been reading about the Alliance leader I thought I ought to check.
Some weeks ago I predicted that this federal election campaign would be one of the nastiest on record, and so far I haven't been disappointed. The Liberal strategy has been very clear, since the moment Jean Chretien explained that the main reason we're having this election is the need to save the country from Day and the Alliance. (...)
So far, Toronto Liberal MP, and former Ontario cabinet minister, Elinor Caplan has been the most direct in voicing this claim. According to Caplan, you can best know somebody by the company they keep, and Stock Day's Alliance and its supporters are "Holocaust deniers, prominent bigots and racists."
As usual in politics, there is a practical side to this slander. The Chretien government has recently taken heat from the Jewish community for its support of anti-Israel motions at the United Nations, while the Alliance opposes such motions. As a prominent Jew in the Chretien government Caplan is particularly vulnerable to criticism, and a handy way to deflect that is to suggest Day and the Alliance are a home for anti-Semites.
Presumably she is referring to Doug Christie, onetime western separatist and the lawyer who defended both Jim Keegstra and Ernst Zundel. Christie has expressed support for Day and even bought an Alliance membership - which the party revoked as soon as it was discovered. But is that any more significant than the fact Zundel was once a Liberal and even campaigned for the Liberal leadership in 1968?
If Christie's brief association with the Alliance makes Day a bigot and a racist, doesn't Zundel's involvement with the Grits leave Chretien, and perhaps even Caplan, open to the same charge? What exactly are the rules of guilt by association? (...)
The intolerance in this election campaign has so far been all in one direction. It is intolerance of ideas, of reform and, ultimately, of change. And that, folks, really is very scary.
So while it looks like the Liberals in America, in order to win the election, need Adolf Hitler as a scare crow, the Liberals in Canada likewise need Ernst Zundel as a scare crow to hold on to their ill-gotten power with white knuckles! I don't know if I should laugh or cry!
"Holocaust Denier" is quickly replacing "anti-Semite" as the new cudgel with which to beat an opponent into submission. It seems even "Bigot" and "Racist" are given a little rest lately.
And it gets even better! Mark Weber sent this to Ingrid, quoting Alexander Cockburn:
Now we're at the point when to deny Al Gore the victory in Florida is to deny the Holocaust.
Here's what Michael Moore posted on his site over the weekend:
"Sixty-two years ago tonight, the Holocaust began in full force on what was called Kristallnacht. The German government sent goon squads throughout the country to trash and burn the homes, stores and temples of its Jewish citizens.
Seven years and 6 million slaughtered lives later, the Jewish people of Europe were virtually extinct. A few survived. I will not allow those who survived to come here to this "land of the free" to be abused again. They are our fellow citizens in our great democracy, and their voice, if I have anything to say about it, will never be snuffed out."
This is an interesting development, for it does show the impact "Holocaust Revisionists" must have had on society generally and on the paranoid minds of Holocaust Exploiters and Promoters particularly. You do not bash an idea or the proponents of an idea around if you do not give them any credence! For instance, the promoters of (...) the Jewish Agenda wailed forever about Anti-Semitism. Anti-Communists could point to the activities of Communists - or there would have been no need for "Anti-Communists." It's all so logical and simple: No Holocaust Exploiters and Shake-down rackets - no Holocaust Revisionists to combat the excesses of the Holocaust Abusers! But enough of this tiring topic, which David Irving so aptly called "infinitely boring."
