Four brief, somewhat unrelated items today:
First:
* Dr. Fredrick Toben's trial in Germany for Holocaust Denial is due to start on November 8,1999 at 9 am in the Landgericht or County Court in Mannheim. Though German in origin, Dr. Toben was raised in Australia as an Australian citizen, and speaks both English and German. Becoming interested in exonerating the German people from the anti-German racism of the Holocaust legend, he at first edited a revisionist journal called Truth Missions, which was later renamed Adelaide Institute Newsletter. He then broadened out to establish Australia's revisionist website, Adelaide Institute.
He has personally visited the site of Auschwitz and burrowed under the ruins of the alleged gas chamber, being unable to find the four holes in the roof which were supposedly used to throw in gas pellets.
He conducted regular dialogue with Exterminationists, and did not expect to be arrested when he visited Prosecutor Klein in Mannheim, Germany, for a private discussion on the Holocaust laws in Germany, which make it mandatory to accept the entire Holocaust story.
Nevertheless, he was arrested by Klein and police chief Mohr in Mannheim, Germany, in April, 1999, and is currently in Mannheim Prison awaiting trial for being a "holocaust denier".
He may face up to five years (prison) if found guilty.
More information can be found at the Adelaide Institute website. (Sorry, my Netscape konked out...)
* The second item comes from the Jewish Telegraph Agency, dated today, October 10, and reads as follows:
"Some 60 people in Toronto protested a speech by a British author known for his belief in conspiracy theories and for his anti-Semitism. David Icke, a former BBC sports announcer and one-time member of the British Green Party, substituted words such as "freemasons" and "reptilian race" in place of "Jew" when he spoke Oct. 6 at the University of Toronto, according to a Jewish leader."
(Zundelsite: If someone talked about "reptilian race" in a room full of Mexicans, let's say, or Indians, or Eskimos, I don't think there would be anyone who would think it meant them Why would that Jewish leader think that it meant "Jews"?)
* The third item is a US Newswire, dated October 1, 1999 and titled "The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on political leaders to denounce Pat Buchanan's anti-Semitism and bigotry."
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director, issued the following statement:
We find it extremely disturbing that Pat Buchanan continues to find mainstream political acceptance when his views place him far outside of the mainstream. He promotes views that are decidedly racist, anti-Semitic, isolationist and nativist. He is an outspoken Holocaust revisionist. As an Israel basher he seeks to undermine America's longstanding ties to Israel, a strategic ally.
Many of these views permeate his new book, which only turns up the volume of his extreme rhetoric and bizarre theories on Hitler and World War II. We have written letters to Sen. John McCain, Elizabeth Dole, Gary Bauer, Steve Forbes, George W. Bush, Alan Keyes and Orrin Hatch calling on them to denounce Pat Buchanan's anti-Semitism and bigotry. The League calls on leaders in the political mainstream to denounce Buchanan's views.
(Zundelsite: From what we hear, Buchanan's political profile is as high as it has ever been. His book is on the bestseller list, and I have heard him say that he has never had so much press as he does now.)
* The fourth item is gleaned from the Hoffman Wire (To subscribe or unsubscribe: hoffman@hoffman-info.com ) - also of today:
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak described Jorg Haider's Freedom Party election result as a "red light to all free world societies. All free world countries should join hands to make sure that ultra-right wing, sometimes neo-Nazi parties will not come to power, will not share power in modern democracies," he told the Reuters news agency on Oct. 6.
(Zundelsite comment: What will it be once Haider wins the election outright? Will NATO do to Vienna what NATO did in Kosovo?)

Thought for the Day:
"(O)ver the long run and against sometimes even longer odds, the sustenance such a bitter story {the Holocaust } provides is thin, unappetizing gruel, insufficient to nourish a people or its children. The challenge to Jews today is not outliving Hitler and the Nazis but overcoming the life-threatening story created in their aftermath."
(Rabbi Michael Goldberg, author of _Why Should Jews Survive?_ [Oxford University Press: New York, 1995, p. 5, )
