Even as I write this, concerned Canadians and supporters of the Canada First Immigration Reform Committee are demonstrating outside Federal Court in Kitchener to protest the ongoing persecution of German-Canadian Helmut Oberlander, whom the federal government is trying to strip of his citizenship because he served in the German Army as a 17 year old in World War II.
I quote here from a press release:
"This case is a travesty," says Paul Fromm, a Mississauga author and director of the Canada First Immigration Reform Committee. "Here is a man who has been a hardworking and productive businessman. He has been the ideal immigrant. Now, in his old age, the government seeks to deport him under retroactive law."
"Such law flies in the face of our British traditions of fair play and the Anglo-Saxon legal tradition of letting people know the law in advance."
"This war crimes mania, 53 years after the war, is blatant German-bashing," says Fromm, a fourth generation German Canadian. "Both my parents proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces in World War II. For them and for most Canadians, the war ended in 1945. Refighting the war is ruining people's lives and scratching up old animosities," Fromm charges.
"The gutless government has knuckled under to pressure groups that want to extract ethnic vengeance for the hurts of more than half a century ago. That's not the Canadian way and it's not fair," says Fromm.
The present campaign to strip a number of German and East European Canadians of their citizenship is "discriminatory", Fromm charges. The federal Gpvernment won't seek proper compensation from Japan for the 750 remaining Canadian veterans of brutal Japanese slave labour camps, who received $1 per day for their hell. "Yet, the Canadian government is beating up on German and East Europeans who have contributed to Canada and have done no harm to any Canadian."
The government is also "hypocritical", says Fromm, because, while it continues to hound people who were on the losing side in World War II, it does nothing to try to exclude or deport Russians who may have committed war crimes or crimes against humanity by manning the vast Gulags, the Soviet slave labour camps.
"This is a double standard. It's discriminatory and it's offensive. Such German and East European-bashing is just not good for ethnic harmony in Canada," says Fromm."
We should have more of those protests - and they should always come with slogans such as "Put an end ot German bashing!" For me, it is particularly significant that this protest should take place in Kitchener - a largely German-descent, Mennonite community that was once called Berlin, I have been told - before hate propaganda against the German people forced folks to abandon their roots.
I know some German-descent people personally who came to Kitchener in the wake of the Ukrainian famine. Peter J. Lorden in "Empire of Evil" tells us why they left:
"It cannot be denied that the ruling elite of the Soviet Union at the time of the Ukrainian Holocaust was largely Jewish. Soviet spymaster Pavel Sudoplatov reports in 'Special Tasks' that when he was transferred from Kharkov to Moscow in 1933, 'Jews held top positions in every major Ministry.' . . . Soviet Jews were never more powerful than at the time of the Terror Famine. Their dominent part in carrying it out, and in their coverup led by Radek and Litvinow, cannot be denied. Their attitude was summed up in the cruel comment of Politbureau member Mendel Khatayevich, who had sent 50,000 'loyal' urban Communists into the countryside to strip every scrap of food from starving villagers. When it was all over, he said, "It took a famine to show them who's master here.'"
And who is master these sad days in Canada?
Somehow my computer has swallowed a chart that shows that of the Soviet Jews who came to our continent, the largest percentage has found a warm and cozy nest not in the USA - but Canada.
Is it any wonder, then, that Canada is leading the Western Continent in Stalin-tactics such as "hate laws" and Soviet style "Tribunals" where truth is no defense?
The Human Rights Tribunals will try to have it otherwise, but rallies such as the Kitchener rally show that Truth IS a defense in Canada. Truth is an absolute. It cannot be erased.
My guess is that today's protest rally, as rallies go, is not yet large in numbers - but courage will be copied, and there will be more rallies in Canada and elsewhere to stop the cruel, incessant German baiting by persecuting old and ancient soldiers who tried to do what real men do: Take up the gun in the defense against the menace of all times called Communism.

Thought for the Day:
"The Jewish population in Germany (has increased) by approximately 100% since eight years ago. The reason for this is that Germany has to permit unlimited Jewish immigration from the former Communist bloc. The German President, Roman Herzog says that '. . . now there is hope that Germany will feel the Jewish presence.'"
