A Zundelsite supporter, who writes to me frequently, sent this observation along just a few days ago:
"The advent of the Internet has created a far bigger dilema for world Jewry than anyone could have imagined just a few years ago.
"Throughout recorded history, the producing class tolerated oppression and tyranny for only limited periods of time before the ultimate backlash occurred. With the net, however, infinitely more people are experiencing their newfound freedom - not the least of which is freedom of expression - and the proportionately larger numbers of people will eventually feel the oppression of censorship, which in turn will ultimately (result) in the unavoidable backlash against those oppressors, who themselves have become more and more brazen because of their increased sense of total control and the security it affords.
"Their appetites are as insatiable as their inability to control themselves in their glee. They are, as we speak, causing rise to the mechanism of their own destruction, because it is their nature and they cannot help it - any more than a dog cannot help but to chase a cat."
They are certainly pushing the envelope in Poland. In retaliation, the defiant Catholic crosses in Poland keep sprouting.
According to an AFP report from Warshaw (August 14, 1998),
"Catholic activists planted 10 more towering crosses outside the former death camp at Auschwitz, despite pleas by Poland's top church official and Jewish groups not to do so, PAP news agency reported.
"Catholic Solidarity unionists and Canadian and American activists of Polish descent erected the new crosses, which stand at four meters (13 feet) tall, and join about 100 others.
"Their actions have infuriated Jewish groups worldwide, who argue the crosses contravene a ban on political, ideological or religious symbols near the camp.
"Both the state of Israel and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem have asked that the crosses be removed.
"The action came also despite a plea on Tuesday by the Polish Primate, Cardinal Jozef Glemp, to refrain from putting up crosses.
"He stressed in a statement the action 'devalues the cross as a religious symbol.'
"The Polish bishops conference will decide what to do about the situation at its next meeting, on August 26. (...)
"In a letter to Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek, the president of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, Miles Lerman, said removal of the crosses was a condition for renewing talks on the 'Auschwitz Charter.'
"The document, currently being prepared, will define the status of the former death camp and its relationship to the inhabitants of the the area."
Since I wrote this, word has come that the government of Oswiecim has cancelled the rental agreement with the "Society of War Victims" on whose terrain the crosses have been erected. The "Berliner Morgenpost" reports (today's date) that "approximately 1 million Jews from all over Europe were murdered in Europe."
Well, well! Let no one claim Revisionists aren't making inroads. Just yesterday it was 1.6 million. A few years ago it was 4 million. Now it's 1 million?
This is a story to be watched.
