Good Morning from the Zundelsite:
The recurring theme in much of the Zundelsite mail is: "What are
you guys REALLY up to?" As one reader summarizes it:
- "The hidden premise is that everyone who opposes the standard
story of the Holocaust wants to establish a National Socialist dictatorship.
The reasoning runs thus:
(a) Anyone who questions any attribution of evil to National Socialist
Germany is in fact apologizing for NSDAP Germany,
(b) People who apologize for NSDAP Germany actively seek the reestablishment
of NSDAP Germany,
(c) Therefore anyone who *denies* the *Holocaust* wants to reestablish
Nazi Germany."
That is the simple view - the Holocaust Promotion Lobby view that "justifies"
their howls about "Never again!" and flinging "Nazi!"
"Racist!" "White Supremacist" in everybody's face who
dares to question the Goldhagen dogma of wholesale "German evil".
The reasons are much deeper, as amplified by this same reader in a separate
e-mail - and amplified by Zundel comments.
This format will make it a bit hard to read, but I don't know how else to
illustrate what happens when it comes to war crimes committed by the Allies.
That's when Ernst Zundel's blood pressure goes up! Ernst Zundel simply hates
it that, while we get daily overdosed with Holocaustomania, so little about
Allied crimes is known.
Here starts the reader's e-mail:
- Great destructiveness, especially if it is near to us in time, cannot
be shrugged off as ". . . just one of those things." Failure
to condemn brutality, cynicism, cruelty, barbarism makes it possible for
us to slide right into such types of conduct again, and again, and again.
But Germany has repented its brutalities. What about the Allies? Do any
of _these_ engage the moral sense of conventionalists?
- The murder of at least 600,000 Germans, mostly women and children,
in the terroristic bombing campaigns against German cities,
- The deaths of hundreds of German POWs in mass shootings, documented
in anecdotal accounts by Gerald Astor, Paul Fussell, and many others
(Ernst: ". . . there were hundreds of THOUSANDS of death through starvation!
And how about James Bacque's claim in "Other Losses" that the
US Army at Eisenhower's order starved to death between 1 and 2 million German
soldiers AND civilians?")
- The postwar beatings and torture of many German soldiers, in countless
accounts, especially the members of the Waffen SS divisions "Leibstandarte
AH" and "Das Reich"
(Ernst: ". . . by British, American, French and Soviet interrogators!")
- The postwar imprisonment of German POWs for up to 10 years in Allied
prison camps, where they were reduced to the status of slave laborers --
not only in Russia, but also in France and England
- The deliberate post-war malnourishment of the German population,
stated publicly by Field Marshal Montgomery in 1945-46
(Ernst: ". . . and by the French and Morgenthauists in the Truman administration!")
- The deliberate expulsion of some 3 million ethnic Germans from Czechoslovakia,
where, in many cases, they were detained in grotesque prison camps where,
in an atmosphere of complete anomie, they were beaten, tortured, raped,
and garrotted
(Ernst: ". . . during which 200,000 were killed!")
- The deliberate expulsion of an even greater number of ethnic Germans
from Poland, where, again, in many cases, they were detained in camps and
in an orgy of violence were tortured, mutilated, and murdered
(Ernst: ". . . hundreds of THOUSANDS were murdered!")
- The systematic terrorization of several millions more of ethnic
Germans from throughout Eastern Europe and Poland, who were driven before
the Red Army in a frenzy of brutality, including instances of the deliberate
murdering of German infants (Nemmersdorf), systematic rapes, including
elderly nuns, deliberate murders of men as heads of households, and all
other local figures of authority, and, again, in many cases, deportation
of hundreds of thousands of Germans to prostitution and slave labor in
the Soviet Union
- The systematic rape of German women, in particular in the Soviet
zone, but frequently in the Western zones as well, for years after the
war
- The systematic plunder of German scientific know-how, through glorified
kidnappings (Operation Paper Clip), of German treasures (Quedlinberg, Troy,
sound recordings), and German overseas assets (peremptorily seized).
(Ernst: ". . . and all the German patents stolen by the Allied powers!
The wholesale destruction of German institutions of learning! The stealing
and/or destroying of millions of priceless books and manuscripts!")
- Add it up: 1 million German POW's. Perhaps 1 million German civilians
in terror bombings. Another 1 million Germans as a direct result of Soviet
atrocities, orchestrated by Ilya Ehrenberg. 14 million Germans expelled,
including 2 million who died in process. 2 million German dead in the first
two postwar winters, from malignant neglect, disease, and hunger. . . Germans
done to death. Not because they were war criminals. Not because of some
terrible mistake. Not because no one knew.
But because they were Germans.
(Ernst: " . . . because of Allied-induced hatred propaganda and
their Europe-wide policy of 'ethnic cleansing!'")
- Yes, let us maintain a "moral vision." It is important
that the atrocities of the Germans against the civilians of Europe -- and
in particular against the Jewish people should be condemned.
(Ernst: SOME segments of the Jewish population! Note: 5,000 still lived
freely in Berlin in May of 1945!")
- But let's remember, while doing so, that a "moral commitment"
that is selective is worse than none: because it pretends that it is _justifiable_
to murder the members of one group, but not of another
(Ernst: ". . . namely it's a crime to mistreat Jews, but it's not
a crime to intern, rob, expel or murder Germans!")
- Indeed, a _selective_ moral commitment, which fails to acknowledge
the criminal behavior of the "Good", or, even worse, seeks to
excuse it, gives the lie to moral commitment altogether.
For it reveals the _a priori_ bias of the observer, who seeks to
justify the victor's justice by an appeal to morality, which would never
be able to stand were all the facts confronted honestly.
Those who say that the Holocaust must never happen again are fond of quoting
the following, falsely attributed to (Adolf Hitler): "Who today remembers
the genocide of the Armenians?" by way of saying that a refusal to
face the sins of the past is the best way to ensure their reoccurrence.
But -- really -- who today remembers the genocide of the Germans of Eastern
Europe . . . ?"
Thought for the Day:
"It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you
are not."
