And decked out is the morning when I wake up and find out that someone
has written my ZGram for me!
This is in response to the ". . . Nizkorite's frantic behavior"
that has been the brisk topic of some of the Revisionist "in group"
correspondence. I have not observed this "frantic behavior" first-hand
because I realized very early that to participate in newsgroups, aside from
such participation being an unsavory travail indeed in which to dissipate
one's energies, would subtract too much from the work that I _really_ needed
to do - which was to do quality outreach.
But lately I haven't been regaled as often with Nizkor drop-in "visits"
to let me know that this or that nasty, vile thing had been done once again
to Ernst Zundel or me - our names, our words and our work.
Apparently, there is a change, because a lot of people have commented on
that, and no one has summarized it as well as this writer, whose slightly
shortened post I am now offering to you as fetching evidence that our strategy
is right:
"I would like to suggest the sources of Nizkorite frantic behavior involves something more fundamental than simple frustration with the undeniably high quality of some posts contributed by people on this mail list.
I would like to remind you that I came to this issue from a strictly historical rather than ideological perspective some years ago and haven't revisited it until recently. But I am convinced, now, that there has been a sea change in the way the (Holocaust) is regarded.
Bottom line: I don't think most responsible intellectuals who have to deal with this topic really believe it anymore.
Try to understand what I mean. This is not to say that Mike Stein, Mark Van Alstine, Danny Keren, Jamie McCarthy or similarly situated relative non-entities doubt that 3 million J's were exterminated in gas chambers.
They _don't_ believe that: I am convinced of that. But they aren't the ones who count. I don't think Raul Hilberg, Yehuda Bauer, Deborah Lipstadt, Gordon Craig, or Fritz Stern believe it either.
Query: what makes me think so? Answer: Read the way they discuss the topic, especially in most recent years, and see how they treat the gas chamber issue - with the greatest circumspection.
In the past eight months I have read dozens of press treatments on aspects of the Holocaust: if the authors of these treatments really believed what they wrote, they would have *gas chambers* in capital letters at the beginning of every paragraph.
But this is the curse of thinking people, even thinking people who are ideologically different from us. They have a hard time repeating lies once they realize that they are repeating lies. It violates, more than honor, more than loyalty - one's most essential self esteem.
I put it to all of you: these people, over the last 20 years, have read the revisionist literature, and now know that they were duped as much as anyone else by the waves of Soviet and British propaganda, wherein the true seeds of the *mass exterminations through gassing* lie.
And this is a true dilemma for them. Their sympathies override their obligation to speak their doubts forthrightly. They dare not deny the lies, because, at bottom, they don't want some hysterical survivor counting coup on them, but at the same time, while they dare not deny, they have apparently decided to say as little about the gas chambers as possible.
And this is why David Irving has had surprise defenders from odd quarters (Hilberg, Craig) and why Goldhagen has had surprise attackers (Bauer, Stern).
These people know what is going on. They just lack the final ounce of courage necessary to stand forth, and, _as authorities_ call a spade a spade.
But the first step in recognizing the truth of a revision is to de-emphasize it: that is what is going on here. The next step will be the admission, which will eventually no doubt be keyed to some *revelation* (like the Auschwitz Death Registers) that we have known about for years.
This is the context of the Nizkorites, but their agenda is slightly different. They also are appalled that few heavyweights will stand forth and articulate all of the foolish garbage they shovel out every day: but these people are committed to two things only: (1) making Holo Survivors feel good by claiming the undeniable truth of every particle of rumor ever uttered in WW2, and (2) baiting, assassinating, and obtusely avowing the veracity of all of this nonsense with the single aim of getting the other person to blow his cool and say something racist or antisemitic, which can then be flung back into this individual's teeth every time they log on.
Such an ideological agenda of course makes me doubt the fundamental sanity of Nizkorites. But there is no doubt in my mind that they too no longer believe -- I have had too many e-mails with them to conclude otherwise -- but their ideological commitment is much, much greater than the first tier intellectuals mentioned above.
But even they, the Nizkorites, must eventually have their consciences speak to them. Even they must eventually grow tired of repeating lies that they do not believe anymore. I think that is beginning to show, now.
And there is one more thing: the existence of the revisionist websites, preeminent among them CODOH, the Zundelsite, and several others, have provided a calm and uninterruptable source of revisionist information. (The Nizkorites) can do nothing to stop it -- legally; which is why they and their myrmidons are now reduced to mail bombs, criminalization through legislation, and other gestures which are _bound_ to fail. To assert otherwise is to deny the undeniable: the freedom of the human spirit . . . (B)e patient. The time is nigh."
This is precisely what Dr. Faurisson predicted WOULD happen - as far
back as 1984. That is why he dismissed David Irving's rash prophesy in 1988
that the Holocaust story would collapse in three years.
The writer is absolutely correct in his assessment of the situation in academia
and even the press. We are inching our way toward the tipping of the scales
- much like a glasier impelled to do just that by its own weight. By nature!
Ernst Zundel always said that the edifice of lies that took five or six
decades to build would not self-destruct at a moment's notice. Too many
careers, too many institutions, too many industries profit from the Holocaust
Racket to make it just disappear or collapse by being struck by the lightning
bolt of Truth. Only steadily crushing the foundations of lies, fabrications
and falsifications will do that - which is what we are doing.
So catch your breaths, you cyber troops out there, and celebrate the electronic
battles of the cyberwar of 1996!
