Good Morning from the Zundelsite:
I have a "HodgepodgeFile" where I dump items
that I want the Zundel-Watch readers to know. All of them have one dimension
in common - they are an indication of how perceptions change of what the
worldwide ideological struggle is really all about - not about "hate"
but renewal and regeneration.
Below is a fair sampling:
- For quite some time I have been saying that although, in the beginning,
our mail ran 5 to 1 against the Zundelsite, once people started reading
what we had to say, the ratio reversed.
- Of late, it seemed to me subjectively, that we received five letters
of support for every letter that was hostile.
- Well, it turns out that I was underestimating the approval ratio.
- I have two piles of e-mail, for instance, one called EZFriends, and
one called EZFoes. The size of EZFriends is 15,246 K. The size of the EZFoes
is 1,320 K. That is a ratio of 11 to 1 in our favor. And it does not include
my mor specialized EZStudents file, my EZMedia file etc.
- I have an international media list that I use sparingly to give our
press releases real punch. In the beginning, a press release out of the
Zundel-Haus would cause an avalanche of protest. My roster of 500 was eventually
whittled down to some 350 who at least seemed not to mind to hear from
us once in a while.
- Now we average 3-4 interviews per press release, and some of them become
repeats because reporters get to know Ernst Zundel and realize that he
has serious, responsible ideas. Ted Koppel's office called the other day.
The latest press release caused not a single peep of protest!
- Quite a few folks who have no websites of their own but who like to
surf the net are now bookmarking my ZGrams just so they have it at their
fingertips each morning. I think that is just nifty! I have no idea how
many.
- Of those who have websites, I know of about ten that have the ZGrams
linked independently of, or in addition to, the Zundelsite. If ever I get
put in handcuffs by our ThoughtCrimes Cops for my Politically Incorrect
Ways, then all these folks will feel withdrawal symptoms and come to my
defense!
- Just a few months ago, the search engines would bring up about 200
links in response to the query "Zundel". The other day I pulled
up 1,800!
- When I search the Net, I am amazed at the proliferation of nationalist
websites. All over the globe, these websites are just shooting up like
mushrooms! Many if not most of them are more outspoken than we are. MUCH
more outspoken than we are!
- So what does all this mean? Much bigger guns against us.
- Last night I had two faxes sent to me by an associate - one from the
Canadian Globe & Mail, and one from the Toronto Star. Here are some thought-provoking
excerpts:
- The Globe & Mail, (August 28, 1996) by Parliamentary Reporter Jeff
Sallot:
- "Discounting these groups as isolated 'fringe elements'
in society is dangerous. Their impact is far from isolated, given the national
and international alliances that exist. . . (citing from a report by the
Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, released August 27, 1996)
- Young people are being targeted by smooth-talking recruiters
from hate groups who are 'operating in a public relations mode', the report
said.
- Well-educated leaders are trying to promote their views to
young people and know how to stop just short of violating the hate propaganda
sections of the Criminal Code . . .
- The report's warnings were reinforced with a presentation by
Karen Mock, national director of the League for Human Rights of the B'nai
Brith.
- Most everyone recognizes the Nazi swastika as a racist symbol,
but teachers are always shocked when their students can readily identify
many of the other more obscure symbols and emblems. . .
- Ms. Mock told the police chiefs that hate groups are making
increased use of the Internet to spread their message. For example, Ernst
Zundel, a well-known denier of the Holocaust, manages to skirt Canadian
law by keeping his material on a computer in California. . . .
- 2) From the Toronto Star (August 28, 1996) in a report by David Vienneau,
a quote by Perry Kelly, a senior policy advisor on hate crimes in the federal
solicitor's department:
- "The department of justice has informed us they are currently
looking at the possibility of a new provision under the Criminal Code covering
the importation and exportation of hate propaganda on the highway."
- And elsewhere, in the same article:
- "'Their impact is far from isolated, given the national
and international alliances that exist' . . .
- The report says that the Internet is oblivious to international
borders and material prohibited by Canadian law can pass freely and unexamined
on the information highway. . .
- Zundel is among dozens of extremists who use the worldwide
computer network to incite hatred and promote violence. . . . The federal
government last year enacted a law that provides for stiffer penalties
for anyone convicted of deliberately abusing people who are gay, female
or members of a visible minority."
- Ernst Zundel will be glad to hear that. He has never, to anyone's knowledge,
deliberately abused people who are gay or female - or, for that matter,
a member of a visible minority. And of only 7 terrorist activities reported
and investigated in Canada in all of 1995, two were directed AGAINST Ernst
Zundel and the Zundel-Haus - a mail bomb and an arson fire, both meant
to kill him and his staff.
- Ernst Zundel, "Holocaust Denier" par excellence, is not gay
or female. He is, however, a very visible minority of one.
